Note: In the subject, I did not misspell "gangsta," Andrew did. Silly Andrew. Can't spell.
For the past week I've been in Texas. This has been pretty fun, and to tell you about it is the purpose of this post. (Oh, my grammar hurts me. Oh well.)
I would not suggest going to Texas alone. It is pretty much what you think it is. There are lots and lots and lots of evil suv's and trucks that get very low gas mileage, and very few people who use them for anything other than city driving. Yet, somehow, the gas is about a dime cheaper there than in Albuquerque, which is generally cheaper than the national average. This fact annoyed me to no end. However, I learned to deal with that pretty fast. Another fact about Texas: there are Christian churches everywhere, exactly as I was expecting, but to a grander scale if that is possible. But I digress. To Texas in general:
On Thursday Kaitlin, Andrew, Cassandra and I all loaded ourselves into Kaitlins little Honda and Whitney and Steven loaded into Steven's truck (along with the bulk stuff, which went into the bed, naturally). For the first four hours or so of the drive, I sat in the seat with the least legroom. This was alright, because of the group, I think I have the shortest legs, despite the fact that I was the second tallest. Go figure. In the beginning there was fighting about music, which was unfortunate, because as we got going, most everyone liked my music, as random as it was. Bah. Kaitlin and Andrew looked for "Africa" (which means camels) the entire trip. Remarkably, there were no camels in Texas, much to their dismay. However, there was a milk factory, which everyone insisted smelled horrible, although I couldn't really smell anything from it. Overall, the drive was pretty uneventful and pretty long and pretty tense. But it's all good.
Upon arriving at Kaitlin's house in Ft. Worth, all of us Albuquerquians learned really quickly that it was really hot and humid. REALLY hot and humid. Being sticky all the time is not a good time. It made walking around downtown(s) unpleasant. Most unpleasant.
Highlights from the trip: (in mostly chronological order)
Downtown Ft. Worth is still more exciting than downtown Abq, despite the fact that the rest of Ft. Worth is more boring. The hookah bar is less exciting. And smells bad. And is attached to a Lebonese restaurant.
The impromptu group Four Day Weekend is pretty funny. Don't lie to them. When they drew notecards for dialouge, three of the six came from Whitney ("I need a Zima!" which Cassandra and I have adopted for ourselves, "Mmm...beer," and "I'm such a face!") and one came from Andrew (see subject), who insisted on wearing his 2pac "bling" despite the fact that he was not even aged double digits when Tupac was murdered. He does not really care about this fact.
The spot where JFK died is really anti-climatic and there are lots of conspiracy theorists that hang out there. They amuse me. A lot. Downtown Dallas/Ft. Worth is just as hot and humid as Ft. Worth proper, if not more so.
We (minus Andrew) went to Dick's for food. That was a riot, because it is a prerequisite that you must be an asshole to work there. There was lots of yelling. However, there were also cherry stem tying contests with the hot waiters. Woot! I cannot tie a cherry stem in my mouth- yet. I need some practice. A lot of practice.
We went to a Rangers-A's game. I believe that the A's swept the series, and they won on Saturday night 6-5 I believe. I was the only one who had ever seen a major league game and yet I was also the only one who watched the game once we arrived. Cassandra and I also learned that OPS means on-base average plus slugging, making it the most useless statistic ever. Our seats were really high but reight behind third base, so they weren't that bad. One could see the entire field from our spots, but could not see enough to argue with the ump about balls and strikes, as if any up could hear us. Not to say I didn't try a couple times. After the game I smoked a cig., and although it wasn't terrible, I didn't get addicted and don't plan on repeating the experience any time soon.
Six Flags over Texas!! Cassandra and I had the brilliant intuition to recommend going at night instead of right when it opened, so we didn't die of the heat too badly and the lines were almost zero. After going on the flashback once and after all but Steven and I went on the Batman ride the group split into Cassandra and I (the wusses) and everyone else. We had a really good time. Went on lots of rides, found the most pleasant chillin spot in the park, all that good stuff. At the end of the night we went on the Shockwave three times in a row (for a total of six) and then became totally disoriented.
On Monday the Sandia kids (Whitney, Steven, and Andrew) left to drive home, and Kaitlin, Cassandra, and I drove around Ft. Worth and I bought shirts from stores I could find in Albuquerque. Oh well. We also went to a Super Target, which was amazing. They are like regular Targets, but all the departments are bigger and there is a supermarket. I almost fainted when we went to the movie section. It was AMAZING!! Then we watched Dodgeball.
On Tuesday we went ice skating in the mall! I was the only one who fell down, but I didn't do too badly overall. I even got going pretty fast. This earned me three blisters, two of which popped and are still bleeding. Then we wandered around the big mall and hung out inthe Love Sac (Sove Sac, baby love sac...) store and talked it up with the guys working there. Before this we went to the Sharper Image store, where they were playing really good music (the Garden State soundtrack and Give Up by The Postal Service) and Kaitlin and Cassandra enjoyed the massage chairs (and I sat in the massage chair, but didn't enjoy it at all). Then dinner, where I tried calamari and lobster ravioli. The calamari tasted like every other fish, but the lobster ravioli I liked.
The mosquitos loved Cassandra the whole trip, but left me alone until the very last day, when they decided to make designs on my legs and arms. This, coupled with the fact that I always wore pants, leads me to believe these are something other than mosquito bites, but I can't figure out what that might be.
Then we flew home!! And that was all kinds of exciting. I am not looking forward to going to work tomorrow at all.
Today I did a major cleaning out of my closet. It felt good, but I still have a lot of ugly clothes. I also get to go to Boston three days early! Horray for that!! I also got into the advising program (Counterculture movies) that I wanted! I'm looking forward to college a lot.
