Dreams and nightmares

Most of this week I've woken with the alarm on my phone at 0100, turned off it off, set another alarm for 0130 and gone back to sleep for a bit. Of course, it goes off again just as I'm settling in for a good sleep.

I eventually drag myself out of bed and face the below-freezing temperatures to go to work, but I don't feel rested. I'm usually half asleep until at least an hour in to my shift. When I think back to what I was dreaming before I woke up, most of this week the answer has been that I was dreaming of work. Specifically facing, or pulling down: straightening the products on the shelves and pulling them forward. As I told a friend recently, it's the most tedious, time-consuming and futile job in the store, and since I'm low-man on the totem pole, it falls to me.

This is how I've ended my shifts all week, and apparently how I've been spending my sleeping hours. The situation reminds me of Dresden Codak's Summer Dream Job, a comic I had hanging on the wall outside my bedroom for a number of months.

At least this week my shift doesn't start until 0400, so I can sleep in a bit longer.

I need a new job
