So, by the poll (muttering about whether or not to read the URL), it seems my audience wants to hear about how music influenced my thinking on relationships as I grew up. And maybe some of you want to hear me singing too.
I have a strange audience.
Growing up, my parents would usually listen to the music of their generation, music from the 50s to early 70s, more of the folk, rock 'n' roll, some blues, etc. So this is the music I will speak about.
Some songs expressed the idea what if you treat a woman right, she'll say by your side and love you and everything will be happy.
Take, for example, Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose and the song "Treat Her Like A Lady"
Oh, you've got to love her
Tease her
But most of all you've got-ta please her
You've got-ta hold her
Now an want her
And make her feel you'll always need her
You know a woman
Is sentimental
And so easy to upset
So make her feel
That she's for real
An she give you happiness
Whoa-oh-oh
Strange as it seems
You know you can't a woman mean
So my friends, now there you have it
I said it's the easy simple way
Now if you fail, to do this
Don't blame her if she looks my way
Cause I'm gonna a
A treat her like a lady
So affectionately
I'm gonna treat her like a lady
She give into me
So far this hasn't worked out for me. Or I haven't been meeting the right women.
Other influences include The Turtles and songs like Happy Together.
Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life

Or the Beach Boys and God Only Knows
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
Ill make you so sure about it
God only knows what Id be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me
Or Elvis's Teddy Bear
I dont wanna be a tiger
Cause tigers play too rough
I dont wanna be a lion
cause lions aint the kind
You love enough.
Just wanna be, your teddy bear
Put a chain around my neck
And lead me anywhere
Oh let me be
Your teddy bear.
I think that one may have had the most impact.
These are just a few examples.
