I finally bought a printer tonight. A little black and white HP Laser Jet. This came about because I'm planning to run a 3rd Ed Shadowrun game soon, and found some homemade character sheets that are customized for various archetype combinations. Not knowing who will play what, or which sheet will best fit, printing from the office seemed infeasible. There have been a few other times where having a printer at home would have been nice too. Experience has shown that I don't print enough to make ink jets viable though. In the months between printer jobs, the ink dries up.
The Lunch & Learn demo I created the installers for last night didn't go quite as expected. Apparently I forgot to include the prerequisites in the installer, and didn't realize SQL Express needs .NET Framework 2.0 ...
Apparently SQL Express also needs Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 as well, so all things considered it's a good thing I installed a working version to the laptop they brought along to the lunch. Thursday morning Travis and I are going back there to set things up again.
And by "Thursday morning" I mean "We'll be at the client's office at 9" which means I have to be at work by 8:30 ...
I narrowly avoided getting a speeding ticket this morning. I was driving along, thinking about how to spell my name in lojban (I came up with djaimz.balrd.) and went 70 in a 55 where a cop sometimes sits with a laser. He wasn't there today though, so I didn't get a ticket. Go me! I think kerak.sindrus would be the lojban spelling of KarakSindru ... the s is added because only names in lojban end in consonants, all non-name words end in vowels.
New episode of
Digital Flotsam. I think Digital Flotsam was the second podcast I listened to, before I was really in to podcasts. The first was
Earthcore, though I didn't really listen to it as a podcast. I downloaded all the episodes and listened to them while cleaning my room. Half a year or more later, I found Digital Flotsam while browsing Winamp's internet music library. The name caught my attention, and the content had me hooked. PDub (P. W. Fenton) has a soft, warm voice. The sort of voice a kindly old grandfather should have. Digital Flotsam is PDub telling stories of his life with accompanying music.
I also listened to
Geek Cred #5, an interview with
Earl Newton. Highly entertaining, and Steve played my voice mail! I wasn't expecting that.
ChinesePod taught me a very silly joke in Chinese today. It translates roughly as "There was this guy that looked like an onion and cried all the time!"
Karak Fact #95 - The first geeky convention I attended was Comic Con International 2004 in San Diego.
