Err ... what?
I don't remember what, if anything, I was intending to write here. They've changed the layout of the update web-page ... again.
Err ... neat? Feels ajaxy, which is probably a good thing.
Anyway ...
I walked up to my desk to find my chair occupied ... by a box. Since I saw no note, I set the box aside and sat down to check email (yay! all six automated backups completed successfully last night.) and still found nothing to do with the box.
After a while, Travis messages me, "Did you get my present?" "The laptop in a box?" "Yeah." When asked what I should do with it, he said "It doesn't work. We need you to make it work and put MedVisor and Cercon Coach on it. Save the packaging, we need that to send it back to the customer." Err ... okay ...
Turns out "doesn't work" is inaccurate (surprise!) and it's simply a Brand New, NRFB laptop / tablet PC from Gateway. It's got the neat LCD screen that swivels so it can be used as either a normal laptop, or a tablet PC.
I basically spent an hour doing exactly what could have been done by the user if given the laptablet and install CDs. Hooray easy tasks!
LunchUno was fun. Amy and Josh weren't there, but Travis was, so we started a side game, which required a new piece of paper to keep score. I won one or two hands, and had zero points another time. For a while I was in second place. Then I got caught with 49 points and am now in fourth (of six) I think.
Went to Wendy's for lunch and stood back from the counter while deciding what to order. The cashier asked if I was ready and I said "Not yet ..." so he went back to sweeping. I stood there staring at the menu, six or eight feet from the counter, but I was the only person in line, so other employees alternately told the cashier he had a customer, and asked if I'd been helped. I felt sorry for the guy by the time I finally ordered ... I had been trying to not make eye contact with people, acting for all intents and purposes like someone staring at the menu trying to decide what to order, which I was. Hopefully he doesn't get chewed out for not helping me quick enough. At no point before I ordered was I closer than halfway from the condiment station to the counter, at least six feet from the registers. It seemed fairly obvious to me that I wasn't ready to place an order yet. *shrug*
Testing software in the Japanese version of Windows is ... odd. I had to take screen caps of errors and ask
neonphog to translate them. Fortunately, he was bored and/or helpful enough to translate. :)
Now that vacation plans are somewhat finalized, I'm noticing that I'm "living in the future" as Landmark might say ... There's still eight days before the vacation starts, but I've already checked out mentally. I wonder if Monday, Jan 1 is a company holiday or not ... I should probably find out, shouldn't I.
I blame
the_lone_bard for the "err..."s in this entry.
