Another missed update

Well damn, missed another update in October. Oh well.

Not a whole lot to say about yesterday. Saw The Prestige with pyratejack. Might have had it's name changed to The Twist! and been directed by M. Night Shamalamallama for all the dramatic reveals. Aside from that, I thought it was a good movie. Definitely a thinker, rather than a sit-back-and-watch sort of movie, like Crank.

Just having Michael Caine, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman added five points to the movie's score. The breakdown, for the curious, is Caine: 3, Bale: 1.25, Jackman 0.75.

D&D was ... interesting. In trying to have the party kidnapped for the adventurehook, I was more successful than the last time I tried it. Last time, my thugs were levels below the party (though outnumbering them 2 or 3 to 1, usually, as this was the device to get the party together in that case) and most of the party either talked their way out of it (massive bluff/diplomacy checks) or simply ran away (stupid 'Expeditious Retreat')

This time, the party was attacked just before dawn, with the Paladin (with little or no points in spot/listen) on watch. Silence had been cast on a stone, thrown into the camp. This prevented the commotion of fighting from waking up the sleepers. It was five or six rounds before the last party member woke up. Also this time, the goons were about equal in level, but an evenly matched number (at first) for the PCs. Two goons stayed behind at the cage/wagon while the other six went in with nets to capture the party. Nets are at once brilliantly useful, and stupidly useless, with a dash of monotony thrown in. "He hits you with a net, you're now entangled" "Escape Artist!" "*sigh* You're free, but that took your full round. Next round, he hits you with a net, you're not entangled ... again." "Escape artist!" "*sigh* ..."

Also, Sleep? Doesn't work well when the party is high in level, and half of them are elves anyway. Surprisingly, the Monk fell asleep, but no one else did. Also, Poisons? All but useless at higher levels. How are you supposed to knock out a high level elf? Very frustrating.
