moon_orchid (also known as
Mickki) talked to me yesterday about an idea about getting people out and about on bicycles on Election Day to encourage other people to vote, tell them where polling places are, etc. Sounded like an interesting iday to me.
Today, she says "I
posted that bicycle election day thing (login required) on the
Omidyar Network and within 24 hours we had a site up and running at
Spokes4Votes.com!"
From the front page of Spokes4Votes.com -On November 2nd, meet at coffee houses and bike shops in your community every hour on the hour, to either bike with bells on, or support those who are.
Then go for a tour of your neighborhood, adjoining communities, downtowns and other places where you'll actually find people.
Ride through residential neighborhoods in the evening until the polls close.
And make sure everyone you meet and everyone within earshot knows that they have to vote today. Encourage people to vote and talk about how important it is to participate in the freedom of American democracy.
Also note, this site is still under construction, so expect changes and updates in coming days.
