In the forest of the night...
Oy ... I think I'm burning myself out ... this staying up past 0300 then waking up for work at or before 1100 isn't working long term ... especially when I forget to close my blinds and am awoken around 0900 after staying up until nearly 0500 ... :-/
I could say it's
holly_lama's fault, for being 7 hours shifted, but it's really not.
I could blame
kadell_cat for keeping me up last night, but it was my choice to accept her offer to keep her company last night...
I could say it's
DreamTeam's fault I have to wake up (relatively) early, but that's a load of crap. With the exception of
Neon, I'm the last one to get into the office every day (usually around noon. Neon gets in at 1300 after his daily classes at CU Boulder). DreamTeam is really very cool about me being in at noon ...
I'm starting to think again about just shifting my schedule 7 hours, to align more with Holly's ... meaning I'd wake up for the day around 0500, go to bed around 2100 ... the only problem is the acursed firey orb ... Also, if I wake up at 0500 that means I've slept through Adult Swim, so I might wake up at 0300 and start my day with the nightly rerun ... Those of you in the ShawChat may have heard about my attempt to shift my schedule on Tuesday. Acutally, I think I may have blogged about it too.. I don't remember, and am too lazy to look it up at the moment. In any case, it didn't work out so well ... I got home around 1900, crashed, woke up around 2030, chatted a bit, went back to sleep and was unable to sleep past 2130 ... until 0400 rolled around, by which point Holly was online and Meg was on the phone ... then I kept falling asleep during
risenphoenix's d20 Modern game, while watching Firefly, no less.
I figured if I do shift my schedule, I can use the time in the mornings to either a) go in fricken early and work, or b) write. I could hang out at the local 24hour Starbucks (much as I dislike Starbucks...) or maybe Peaberry Coffee would be open by then ... just bring my laptop, get a daily dose of caffiene and write for a while before going in to work. I have many things I need to write at the moment, including, but not limited to:
- Character Background for diziara's Vampire IRC game
- Character Background for duaiwe's d20 Modern IRC game
- more chapters of Ex Machina
- plot lines / story ideas for my D&D 3.0 game
Somehow this doesn't seem like a terribly bad idea, except that I wouldn't see a lot of the ShawIRC people I've come to expect chatting with late at night... sure, some of the west coasties would still be up when I wake up... but the eastcoasties would be asleep (except maybe for Hawk...) And, hey, maybe I'll see Bakachu more often (since he's in the UK ...)
Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I try it for a week? (fuck up my circadian rythm one weekend, and then un-fuck (fuck down?) it the next if it doesn't work out) or should I just trust that I'll find some sort of sleep cycle that'll work for what I want to do?
It's clearly not working for me to ... not ... work ... at ... work ... grah! I'm losing my perspicacity! I used 'work' three times in that thought...
I need to get back to work now ...
