Yes, in a fit of fangirliness this week, I ordered navy blue Converse All Star low tops. I expect to receive them tomorrow but they're already causing me aggravation.( Read more... )
You are the second person on my flist to have this problem with UPS this week. Sorry you had to go through the aggravation! Good for you for complaining.
I think that this is a recent change? I know in the far distant past, you could make this change for free. I guess I'm mostly just annoyed that I wasn't given the notice up front. The web interface set up didn't really make it clear what shipping options you have--I would have considered having it overnighted, but I forgot to look for the option and they didn't really put it in my face.
This really does change my attitude towards internet purchases. Future purchases will be made at local boutiques. The aggravation was enhanced by the fact that I did in fact see these exact shoes in a local shop yesterday. Yay for local retailers, I guess?
If you haven't actually sent this to them, you really should. The whole signature thing is very not cool, and they should know that they've lost a customer because of it. Dealing with UPS is a pain in the neck in general.
*hug* I hope the shoes are awesome and worth the grief!
I did indeed send it to them. I was so proud of it, I wanted to share.
I almost became more fulsome in my rant about the expectation that anyone working fulltime has a wife (and yes, I mean the assumption is a wife) or servants at home to take care of things like this. I decided that it wouldn't help my point with Converse.
I think what you said to Converse on the topic was to the point in a way that will be effective-- I know of the lengthier remix of the rant, and I HEARTILY agree.
This just confirms that my latest tactic of ordering through the nifty independent book and cd shop 2 blocks away from me is a better idea than ordering through Amazon.
My most recent Powells order was in April and was left on my doorstep, and I was DELIGHTED. It was even automatically rerouted to my new address because it was a USPS order. So consider this a plug for powells.com for books? Not so useful for Converse, I realize.
Thanks! I am still psyched for the shoes. Seeing them in a store yesterday confirmed that. This whole experience makes me think that internet shopping is not as convenient as it used to be!
I usually sign the back of the notice and get it the next day.
of course, I also live in a building with a wonky doorbell, so I sometimes suffer the indignity of coming down to see a new notice, too, so I agree in general principle.
But, packages get stolen off porches around here with some frequency, too, which might be the reason retailers have introduced these policies.
Wow. I mean, I figured I must have been missing something, but, yeah, that's crazy. Amazon claims to require a signature, but my ups guy has always been happy to have me sign. yeeeikes.

Before I lived in a doorman bldg, I certainly came to dread having to trek all the way to the main UPS office and then carry my package home.

That is usually what I do too, but in this case, the sender set it up so that that is not an option. They will not leave this package at my house.
What annoys me is that this was in no way indicated up front when I made the purchase.
