Music rant GO

Who said I can't do two rants in as many days?

But this time the subject is on modern music. I bought the CD 'Metro Station.' And this is what I have to say about it:

Why do you ruin that wonderful techno music with such shallow lyrics?

Irritating, to say the least. Now, I don't think of myself as a prude (any kid introduced to Heinlein at a young age will say the same) but I do find it disturbing to have an entire CD that is just love songs, or thinly-veiled metaphors for sex. I take that back - not 'disturbing', disappointing.

I guess I've been spoiled by all of my *real* techno. I mean, there's no better song than 'Darkangel' to walk to class to - it inspires you to go out and right all wrongs or at least think for yourself. And well, you saw 'One With the Song' - I'm spoiled with my Country too. And then all of my real political commentary music covers all my folk music...

I can honestly say that none of my CD's are all love songs. (And yes, that includes everything from Panic at the Disco to the Beatles) Forgive me for seeking out music that either makes me think or tells me that there's something to be done about the world.

Course, who am I to judge one genre or another as meaningless? I'm sure few people see the point behind VNV Nation or Fleetwood Mac, much less 'get' the reason why I shower the bands in question with such affection. Maybe I really am rather judgmental.

Still, I think I'm going to listen to my newest CD with the vocals turned down, just to appreciate the marvelous background music.

Edit- I happened upon an even better solution. Now I picture horribly blood AMVs to the music. It makes it so much better!
