Don Eppes hated the rain. It had delayed his arrival into LAX and made the already slow traffic grind to a screeching, squeaking stop.

Despite the car's heater working on full, Don was soaked to the bone. Rain had not been in the forecast for today when he'd parked his car a week ago. He had been so glad to find a parking spot; he hadn't cared if it was uncovered. Now he was wishing he'd given it a little more thought.

Don shivered as traffic crept forward a few feet only to stop again. He dropped his head onto the steering wheel with a groan.

All he wanted was to get home, take a warm shower, put on dry clothes, and cuddle up with Colby. Was that too much to ask?

Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Well, I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
Taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadow

Finally, after what seemed like a week later (but was probably only an hour), Don pulled off the freeway and into his neighborhood. His front was dry but his back remained clammy and cool.

"Shower, clothes, Colby," Don muttered as he pulled into his usual spot. Unfortunately, this parking space was not covered, either.

He stared up the darkened sky for a moment before reaching for the car door. Since the rain was coming down just as hard at his place as it had at the airport, he decided to leave his stuff in the car and make a dash for the door. If he was lucky, he might still be mostly dry when he got inside.

Lightning flashed as Don broke into a run across the parking lot. The light momentarily blinded him and he splashed through a deep puddle, soaking himself to the knees. Panting and dripped, he slid into the lobby of his building.

The security guard looked up at him, amused delight dancing in his eyes. "Don't you just love the rain?"

Don decided not to answer and headed for the elevator.

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night

Ooh-ooh

Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good

Letting himself into the darken living room, Don paused to do most of his dripping on the welcome mat. The bright mat he was currently drenching had been a gift from Idaho when Colby had moved in three months before. While Don wasn't a fan of the bright sunflowers, he'd taken one look at Colby's happy face and put it in front of the door.

Looking around, Don frowned. His car had been in the lot, but Colby wasn't where he'd expected him to be. The couch was absent of his lover and the usual pizza box.

Maybe he rode with David today, Don thought was he shook his arms to make sure he was done with most of his dripping.

Stepping further into the room, Don could see a little sliver of light coming from the back of the apartment. He followed it, hoping Colby was interested in the quiet night he craved.

Don quickly realized that the light he was seeing was coming from the balcony. They'd gotten this place because of the covered veranda with its views of both downtown and the distant ocean. It was Colby's favorite place in the entire apartment, except maybe the pool.

Well, I love a rainy night
It's such a beautiful sight
I love to feel the rain
On my face
To taste the rain on my lips
In the moonlight shadows

Puts a song
In this heart of mine
Puts a smile on my face every time

'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Ooh, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night

Ooh-ooh

Rain rolled off the cover in soft sheets glinting in the light from the outdoor light. The edge of the wooden balcony was damp, but their sitting area was fully covered and dry.

Colby sat in one of the wooden chairs, an old accoustic guitar resting in his lap. His fingers tapped against the guitar's body and plucked at its strings. His voice was low in volume but his pitch was even and smooth.

The song hit the instrumental section and Colby bowed his head to focus on it.

Don watched, mesmerized, as Colby's fingers danced on the strings of the guitar. He hadn't given the instrument much thought when Colby had moved in with it. He should have known the battered but loved case had meant a lot to his country boy. His talented country boy.

Showers washed
All my cares away
I wake up to a sunny day
'Cos I love a rainy night
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night

Well, I love a rainy night
You can see it in my eyes
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, it makes me high
Ooh, I love a rainy night
You know I do, yeah, yeah
I love a rainy night

Don stepped onto their balcony. He stopped to rest his hand on the back of Colby's chair, not wanting to disrupt the man's flow.

Colby, however, never faltered even as he looked up with a blinding grin. His eyes were filled with the warmth the rain had lacked. Don felt himself shivering and stepping closer to his lover.

Swaying gently with the song, Colby's shoulder brushed Don's hip in a smooth, gentle rhythm. The intimacy of the caress and the music made Don sigh and press closer in time with Colby.

Well, I love a rainy night
You can see it in my eyes
I love a rainy night
Well, it makes me high
Well, I love a rainy night
And I love you, too
Yeah, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night

"Not bad, Idaho," Don said as Colby played the last cord.

"Thanks," came the reply with the unspoke request for a kiss with an upturned face.

Don ablidged and sighed as his lover's arm slid around him in a half hug as well.

"You're freezing," Colby accused. He rose quickly and set the guitar inside the door to the balcony. "Come on; let's get you a warm shower and some dry clothes."

"And then?"

"And then we can snuggle up here and listen to the rain."

Don nodded and sighed. Maybe the rain wasn't so bad after all.
