You know it's funny, in Japan having the aritst and the writer by the same perosn seems to work. In the US not so much.
I wonder if it's because in Japan, you are often artist, writer, and *creator*
I kinda wish the USA would pick up on that a bit more and rather than having the never ending comic series of DOOM start putitng out more finite titles =P
Like Amthyst, which I pretend was only a 12 issue mini series. Don't tell it wasn't, I blocked ther est of it frim my mind!
I don't know, if he's ever been an artist on something I haven't seen it. He writes his own series, Fables, and (currently) Robin and Day of Vengence... along with some Batman.
And as far as the Japanese artist/writer/creator all in one.. I don't know, it doesn't always work. Not every artist can writer.. writer draw, etc. I've read plenty of manga with a very weak story, but great art.. and vise versa. Although, the same can be said about a comic with a different writer and artist. I love the current writer on Nightwing, but I dislike the art. Oh well.

There are some.. just depends what you read. ;) I was happy when Brian K. Vaughan said that Y: The Last Man would only be 60 issues long.. that means he has an ending planned. Yays!
Huh, I kept picking up fables hoping it would be good but it's enver held my attention ^^
That's true on manga comics, I think maybe what I was getting at is you probably don't have as many people going AHHHHH you wrote him wrong, when the writer is the creator (of course theyc an still do that, witness People's reation to FLagg in book 7, but whatever). It just seem sless likely when it's not like the 200th writer and 450th artist to take over a character that's been around forever ^^.
One slef contained story I keep meaning to pick up is Orbiter. Looks interesting, It almost got it's ending pulled because it oinvolved a space craft blwogin up and it was schedualed for release the a week after the space craft exploded on re-rentry 0.o
A Distant soil is also finishing up. I'm going nuts, Colleen caim out with issue 38 but my comic guys can't find it for me 0.o
