Eric woke up early that morning, after having to comfort Arica and dealing with another flashback to… well, hell was the only correct word for it. Sark had held them for those two weeks and had done things to Arica that had long since physically healed but the emotional scars still remained. And then there were his own emotional scars from that time, which he’d never truly dealt with.
He sat in the living room, nursing a cup of coffee, while letting his mind wonder, trying to sort out his own thoughts. He certainly couldn’t sleep now, regardless of the fact that he had to go to work at eight, which was in less than four hours.
He fiddled with the wedding band on his hand and vaguely wondered if Arica should be with him. He hadn’t been able to protect her, despite his job being that of a CIA agent, one of the more capable professions.
Arica had never blamed him or even hinted that the events were his fault. On the contrary, when he let himself get lost in the despair of helplessness, she had pulled him out of it and told him in no uncertain terms that she wouldn’t hear of him putting the blame on his shoulders. But he still blamed himself when nights like this happened. Because of his faults as an agent, as a husband and back then as a boyfriend, she carried these burdens and always would.
She found him a few hours later, still sitting there unmoving. Ashley’s crying had woken her up but the child had gone right back to sleep. “Eric?” she asked softly.
“How can you still love me? I let you down so horribly. And I can’t even protect you from the nightmares now?” To an extent his wife was still imprisoned in the Sark nightmare and he suspected always would be and he desperately wanted to be able to set her free.
She cupped his face with her hands. “I love you Eric,” she replied firmly. “I love you and that will never change. You didn’t let me down. What happened, happened and we have baggage from that still and we will have for some time. You didn’t let me down last night. I was a wreck and you were there for me. You held me and comforted me and got me through it.” She paused in her words to study her husband. “It’s been a long time since we had a night that bad hasn’t it?”
Eric nodded. That was part of why he felt so bad because he’d thought they were over. “Why tonight? If they were over, why tonight?”
“I don’t know.” She sat next to him and snuggled close. “What I do know is that you were there for me and we got through it. I also know that we always will.”
Eric turned to look at her then, almost surprised by how strong the love and devotion was in her eyes. The pain and the agony of the previous night seemed to melt away at her look, at her touch on his hand. Cupping her cheek, he leaned in to kiss her firmly and she relaxed into him, pulling back only to remind him. “You’re going to be late for work if you don’t move soon,”
“Who said I cared about being on time?” he asked mischievously, smiling for the first time that morning.
Arica rolled her eyes at him. “Jack will have a fit.”
“Let him!”
She laughed in response, but allowed Eric to lead her back into their bedroom.

Title: What Happens After Life Ends?
Author/Artist: Kara B. [aricadavidson or kara_muse]
Theme: Destruction
Pairing/Characters: Eric Weiss/Shannon Weiss
Rating: PG
Disclaimer/claimer: Eric Weiss belongs to the Alias people [JJ, Greg etc]. Shannon Weiss belongs to ramdonomo who plays her at sgc_spybarbie
Notes/Summary:
Shannon sat across the room from her ex-husband, vaguely wondering what would have happened if they’d never separated and also at the reasoning of sending her to do this job. Arica had been killed two years before after she’d been kidnapped by a terrorist group who’d found out she was a CIA wife. They had also taken his kids and there had been no sign of the twins at the warehouse where she’d been found. Eric and Arica’s infant daughter had been left with her as she was dying and was all he had left so he’d focused on her and finding the twins. When they found the twins dead six months later to the day, he’d just up and quit and he’d moved.
She noticed that even now, the only time he seemed alive was when Ashley was in the room.
“I’m not going back,” Eric spoke suddenly, interrupting her reverie. “I know that’s why they sent you. I’ve already lost too much because of the job. I’m not risking Ashley too.”
“We can protect her,” Shannon started to say but was interrupted.
“Like Arica was protected? And David and Liya? They’re gone because of the job. And nothing can bring them back.”
“That’s right,” she replied. “But would Arica want you to live like this?”
“Like what? I’m doing alright.”
“The only time you’re alive Eric is when that child is in the room. If you don’t want to come back, fine, but you ought to take care of yourself.”
He shook his head, not really responding. If he hadn’t had Ashley, he would… he would’ve lost it and wouldn’t be on earth today. He’d had enough dark nights as it was.
Shannon moved to sit next to him and put a hand on his shoulder. “I care about you Eric and I can’t watch you like this.”
Before she could continue, his lips were on hers - a long, desperate kiss. She was stunned for a long moment before she was able to pull away and she stood. She shook her head. “I can’t do this either Eric.”
“Don’t go.” The words surprised even him. He’d been alone so long…
“I can’t stay. I’m not her,” Shannon replied. “And I can’t be her or take her place.”
“I don’t want you to,” he replied softly, catching her hand. “Please. Stay.”
She looked into his eyes and saw the loneliness she felt reflected. She didn’t have a family and he’d lost his. “I’m not the marrying type,” she said. “And I’m not quitting my job.”
“Who said anything about marriage?” he asked. “We’re both lonely. We’ve both lost a lot to the job. We both could use a friend I think.” He wanted companionship so desperately, and not just simply in the bedroom either.
Normally she would have argued that wasn’t a reason to get together but this was Eric and she’d so often wondered. “I can’t promise anything but I’ll stay for a little while.”
It wasn’t much but it was a start.

Title: Innocent Flirtation
Author/Artist: KaraB [aricadavidson or kara_muse]
Theme: 80’s Music
Pairing/Characters: Eric Weiss/Brittany Frederick
Rating: PG
Disclaimer/claimer: Eric Weiss belongs to the Alias crew; Brittany Frederick is the creation of divisionvixen.
Notes/Summary:
It started out as an innocent flirtation; an invitation to a CIA function that was required but neither cared anything about going to. They’d made their appearance and skipped out on the rest of the party. They’d met through a certification program given to current and upcoming federal agents on terrorism. Eric was initially shocked to find her in the class, someone so young dealing with an issue that federal agents like him were making their careers in the area.
After the class everyone went out for drinks and the evening ended with the two of them sitting in some all night diner afterwards, drinking coffee and swapping Air Supply digs and insanely horrendous puns.
“So does it bother you?” Brittany asked him suddenly.
“What? That Air Supply exists?”
“Well, let’s not get into that,” she replied. “But what I meant was does my age bother you?”
Eric shrugged at that. “Not really. Makes me feel old I suppose. I sorta figured it was a family thing,” he added, making reference to her adopted father - Agent Jack Bauer. Bauer was known throughout the Agency and some of his missions and situations had been discussed at the farm and in the Counter Terrorist training sessions.
Brittany looked thoughtful for a long moment. “I suppose it is in a way. I’m here because my mom was killed by a terrorist.”
“Revenge is a great motivator,” Eric replied. “But it’s not the best one.”
“And what do you know about revenge?” she countered, challenging him.
“Not as much as you do apparently,” he admitted. “Have you even ever lost anyone you cared about?” Okay, maybe that was part of her problem. She was far more blunt than most agents liked. And she challenged them which, again, many did not like. Eric never seemed to mind it or care, he just let it flow on by.
“I have! Alan died last year.”
“Who’s Alan?” she asked curiously. “An old friend?”
“He was my dog.”
Okay, she couldn’t help it, she started laughing and he joined right in. “I’m sorry Eric… it’s just… your dog?!”
“He was a good and loyal companion!” Eric insisted through his own laughter.
“I’m sure!” she replied, still giggling. When she quieted again she added. “Thanks Eric.”
“For what?” he asked, somewhat confused.
“For not treating me different just because I’m younger.”
“Well in that case,” Eric replied grinning. “How about that date tomorrow night? You know you wanna!”
She smirked, thinking. He’d asked her earlier and she’d said no. “Well, alright, what the hell?”

Title: Saying Goodbye
Author/Artist: KaraB [aricadavidson or kara_muse]
Theme: Autumn Leaves
Pairing/Characters: Eric Weiss/Nadia Santos
Rating: PG
Disclaimer/claimer: Eric and Nadia belong to the Alias crew.
Notes/Summary: More in the Alias canon
Eric Weiss had never known an agent like her. Scratch that. He’d never known a person like her. Her smile was captivating, her personality just as attractive and it was hard to believe that she was the progeny of a monster like Arvin Sloane.
He’d made a complete fool of himself and she’d laughed with him. He’d been a total ass and she’d forgiven him for it. And he constantly wondered what in the world she saw in him because especially next to her, he felt like a bumbling idiot. But he would do anything for her and he wanted to protect her from all the horrors of their profession even though, admittedly, she’d already been in the middle of a lot of them - moreso than he had. It baffled him how she expected so little from him and was surprised by the small things he did for her - bring her flowers, open the door and the like. A woman like her deserved to be treasured above all and he wanted to do that for her since no one apparently had ever before.
And he thought all this while sitting by her bedside at the hospital where she lay in a coma of some sort. The hospital was CIA run and he had no trouble getting in to see her. Sloane knew he was coming by because the man had cornered him earlier. He thought back to what had been said.
“I heard you were going to see Nadia,” Sloane spoke as he neared Weiss’ cubicle.
Not seeing a reason in the world to deny it or a thing wrong with visiting, he replied with a curt. “Yes.”
“Good.” It was an unexpected response and both men stared at each other for a long moment. They hadn’t really seen eye to eye… well ever, but especially over Nadia. Sloane wanted someone outside the profession for her who might possibly convince her to relax and settle down, not someone who would keep her in it. “They say that people in comas can hear what’s said around them, especially from loved ones. Maybe you’ll help my girl find her way back.”
Uncharacteristic emotion from a man responsible for the deaths of thousands or more. But Weiss had appreciated it and had even hoped for once, that Sloane was right.
But she hadn’t come back and that lead to why he was sitting here next to her, trying to decide what to do. He’d been offered the position of a lifetime - advising the President of the United States. The only problem? It would mean a move across the country. It would mean leaving her here, still in the coma. And even if she woke after he left, what kind of boyfriend would she view him as?
Would she view it as him moving on with his life or would she hold it against him? Would she want to come to be with him or continue to live her life out here? And would she even wake from the coma? She’d already been in it for over three months and the doctors had seen no change whatsoever.
He loved this woman. But he also didn’t want to crush his hopes again. He’d never had the luck with women that Vaughn had. He didn’t usually get the girl and… Well Washington might be a good change of pace. His best friend was dead and his girlfriend was in a coma and not much hope. What better time to start over? What better place to start over? If nothing else, he could definitely dedicate himself to the job that had to be done.
His gaze fell on the tree outside the window and he watched as the leaves blew off it into the wind. Autumn leaves were falling off the trees. Change was coming - like it or not. And you had to choose to either go with the flow or fight the current. And fighting the current could only make a person tired and possibly ruin their chances of a future.
His mind made up, he leaned over and kissed Nadia’s forehead. “Sweetheart, I’m going to move to Washington, but I want you to know that when you wake up, I’ll be on the first plane back to see you. If you still want me, believe me, I’ll always want you. I just… I need to move on. And I think you would understand and probably make the same choice if our situations were reversed. But know this, I’ll always love you. Always.” He kissed her forehead once more and without one more glance back, left the room and headed to his new life. The winds of change had blown him out the door, but like the autumn leaves, he would return eventually.

Title: Why Haven’t You?
Author/Artist: KaraB [aricadavidson or kara_muse]
Theme: Procrastination
Pairing/Characters: Eric Weiss/Sydney Bristow
Rating: PG
Disclaimer/claimer: Eric and Sydney aren’t mine! They belong to the Alias crew!
Notes/Summary:
Eric wasn’t sure when it happened but one day it hit him like a ton of bricks - he’d fallen for Sydney Bristow. Not that he could tell her or anyone else about it. His best friend, Michael Vaughn had been carrying his own torch for her for well over two years now and it wouldn’t be right to try and hone in on a buddy’s girl, even if they weren’t dating [yet]. Mentally he shrugged as he thought about all this. He was never that type - the type that won the girl in the end. Vaughn, well, maybe; but not him.
As determined as a person may be to hide their feelings, they never quite can and he knew that.
“You’re thinking about her again, aren’t you?” Vaughn asked, shuffling some paperwork.
“Who?”
“The girl you won’t tell me about,” Vaughn replied matter of factly.
Weiss made a show of rolling his eyes and shrugging. “It’s not important.”
About a week later he was assigned to a mission to be Sydney’s date at a party. Vaughn’s face had already been seen by a lot of people, so he wouldn’t do. And during the mission, he was almost dangerously distracted. He knew Sydney could tell and prayed she wouldn’t ask and that no one else would find out. Taking a deep breath again, he forced himself to focus and they made it through the night without incident. Once they were back in the van, comms off, he turned to look at Sydney. “Sorry about that.”
“We made it through,” was her response.
“No thanks to me.”
“Don’t beat yourself up about it.” Her replies were curiously short for off mission talk. “You’re in love with me too aren’t you?” she suddenly asked.
Weiss looked at her in surprise. “What?”
“You have the same look in your eyes Vaughn does when he looks at me,” she explains, a twinkle present in her own.
“Why are you bringing it up with me? I know you haven’t discussed this with Vaughn.”
“There’s a reason for that, I assure you,” she responded. Michael Vaughn was her direct handler and she didn’t want to try to mix business and pleasure in that respect. Eric Weiss, however, she didn’t have much contact within the hierarchy of the business.
“What reason is that?”
“I suppose that’s for me to know and you to find out,” she coyly replied, smirking at him. “You are supposed to be a spy aren’t you?”
“So you like me too then?” he asked, curiously. “Why haven’t you said something before now?”
“Why haven’t you?” she countered.
“Well…” he trailed off. “Just procrastinating I guess. That and I didn’t want to step on my buddy’s territory.”
“I assure you, I’ll date whom I wish and I don’t really care what Michael Vaughn thinks.”
