first 2010 reading list post!

Feb 21, 2010 11:54

I realized when I started this post that I had never finished op my 2009 reading list, and rather than make an entire post to list 2 books, I'll just throw them onto the front part of this post.

49. Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper
50. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (Beatrice Sparks)

Ok, so I'm not worried this year about meeting any certain quota.  I don't have a set number goal of books to read.  I'm just reading what I want, when I want.  I try not to guilt myself over when I have to forgo reading one weekend so that I can get my house clean, laundry done, or papers graded.  That's been an exercise in itself!  So, we're at the end of February, and I've read 6 books, but really, I'm about on the same track as I have in other years.  January-February-March are difficult months for me to keep up with reading because of all the other demands on my time.  Anyway, here they are:

1. Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir by Jennette Fulda
2. Believe It, Be It: How Being the Biggest Loser Won Me Back My Life by Ali Vincent
3. The Penelopiad: The Myth of Penelope and Odysseus by Margaret Atwood
4. The Wal-Mart Effect: How the World's Most Powerful Company Really Works--and How It's Transforming the American Economy by Charles Fishman
5. The Runner's Rule Book: Everything a Runner Needs to Know--And Then Some by Mark Remy
6. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle: A Novel by David Wroblewsky

And right now I'm reading Once a Runner: A Novel.  It feels good to start off the year reading such great books.  Soon I will be rereading Night because I intend to teach it later (after Romeo and Juliet) to my Pre-AP class. I want to pair it with some readings about Rwanda, but it's all so emotional, horrifying, and raw.  I feel like I need to teach it, but I know it will be hard for me.  And that's what makes me want to teach it.

As always, I'm perfectly willing to discuss anything I've read, but I keep my reviews on Goodreads.com. You can click on the widget to poke around.
