2008 reading list update

Jun 15, 2008 20:25

It's official. Working limits the amount of reading I get done. The spring semester is especially bad with all the research papers and Shakespeare I teach. Those things tax me to the point of not wanting to read. Yes, believe it of me. I am only human.

At this point, reaching my goal of 50 books read in 2008 isn't looking so good. *sigh*

1. A Coming Evil by Vivian Vande Velde
2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
3. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
4. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
5. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne (reread)
6. Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl
7. Atonement by Ian McEwan 8. All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot9. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
10. I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
11. The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff
12. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
13. Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess
14. Becoming Jane Austen by Jon Spence
15. The Host by Stephenie Meyer
16. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexi (currently reading)

I haven't been rereading and I haven't been reading "the classics." (Hey, I read about the classics in Becoming Jane Austen, if that counts for something.) And looking over the list as a whole (and considering my stack of books to be read), it looks like the year of smart reads and sci-fi.

As usual, I'm happy to discuss anything here or on previous lists and you can find my reviews here:
