I tried to get amped for Comic-Con this year, but I'm just not feeling the geek love. Let me tell about last year.

The crowds. Oh dear god the crowds. It was oversold, and took a full hour to shuffle your way from one end of the convention to the other. Not walk. Shuffle. If that. I literally could not move, there were so many people. I got ( Read more... )

I used to go to San Diego Comic Con every year until 2002 or 2003 (forgot which). That was the year my friend Ed and I went down for the day, spent 4 and a half hours in traffic, couldn't find ANY parking anywhere in downtown San Diego (not even the $50 lots!) and saw that the line to get in was over a mile long. We had to turn around and drive home.

I vowed NEVER to go back.

Since my primary reason for going to the con was for comics (which have definitely taken a back seat to movie and TV hype), I'm very happy to steer clear of this nightmare of crowded geekstink and just do Wizard World Los Angeles in the Spring.

I've never been, but based on reports like yours, I haven't the desire. If I were to go, there's a grand total of two comics I'm looking for; the rest would be wasted on me.

Yeah. Just reading this and thinking about the crowds and the hype and the smells and the price tags has exhausted me. Yuck.

I went in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and I actually liked that it was becoming a bit more multi-media, but I also noticed how it was starting to get too big for it's britches, to the point of annoyance. From living vicariously through the internet, it seems a million times worse now ( ... )

I've been hearing all negative reviews of comic con so far and it makes me glad I wasn't able to go and that this wasn't my first one.
From how crowded last year was, I probably would have gone ape shit eventually and just started pushing people to get some air.
That's what almost happened the time I went to Bootie with Justi et al the first time they moved back to the original location.
