12 hours and a very confusing train ride later, we have begun our Far East invasion. :)
We just got in yesterday, and we're staying with
_beal_, who is gracious enough to let us crash on his (heated, futon-covered) floor. We haven't been out to see a whole lot yet, but we did go for a walk to dinner last night with Beal and Yuko, and got to see the Ikebukuro section of Tokyo.
Some thoughts:
- If someone ever tells you, "I love Japanese food! It's so healthy!" you should laugh at them. Just yesterday we had cream-filled bread, lemonade, bacon-wrapped mochi and a salad covered with mayonnaise. You can get beer from vending machines. It is awesome. But it is not healthy.
- It's very weird suddenly being illiterate. Fortunately, I remembered more Japanese than I thought I would, and thefreak is helping me out. Hehe. If I squint at the kanji long enough, it will make sense...

Today, we are off to Ibaraki^-- it's raining, but even though I forgot my toothbrush, I did remember the umbrella.
