Hi-I CANNOT find the bloody nameplate! Damn! I'm fairly certain that it went "far, far away" when my father basically threw all my stuff into storage many years ago-VERY unfortunate.
I would give anything to have that thing now. Yes, I LOVED and adored Gene...also, another story: when I was in 9th grade a girl I barely knew walked by my open locker, which had a beautiful portrait of GW from "Blazing Saddles" in it; she casually mentioned that her sister was a friend of his and he'd come over to their house a few times--I think I may have wrestled her to the floor after that! Turnes out her sister was in a very obscure film "Rhinocerous", with Zero Mostel(by virtue of knowing the director)and became pals with Gene. Some time later her sister the actress, who was in a kind of rehab at her parents' house(where this girl, soon to be a very good friend, also lived, of course)showed me some letters GW had written her while he was in London rehearsing "The Little Prince". Mundane, but I thought SO cool, of course. This other friend, made through the GW "connection" is still my pal today-in fact, the only friend I went to high school with that I still see. : )
All that honeywest--she is my very OLDEST friend, since 3rd grade!-says is true...that was an absolutely crazy-fun time...Mel Brooks was a total sweetheart. If only we could have not giggled so much we choked!--but Mel didn't seem to mind. Whatta guy. Our adventure at the studio was the summer after "Young Frankenstein" came out, so you can imagine how hot he was. We saw the crew from "MASH" walking around the lot also...I remember Gary Burghoff was a total jerk, lol. ; )

Well if its still in storage, there is still hope? Great stories, you were very lucky-I dont think letters are mundane at all.
I always find it miraculous when I "meet" people who still have friends from grade school, my mom was an army brat and we moved a lot-not to mention, these days noone stays in one place. Its good to have old friends. :)
