I got laid off from my job this week. This is, as the saying goes, some grade-A, primo bullshit. I started with this company back in 2007. I kicked so much ass at this job that they promoted me. Twice. One of those within three months of starting the job. The shift I ran consistently had the highest production rates of all of them. And so, when the economy went south, instead of letting me go, my bosses went out of their way to find me a spot at another office. They bent over backwards for me, and so I packed all my stuff into a truck, and drove 11 hours away to start my new adventure. For the last 8 months, I have been 572 miles away from my friends and family. And when I got here? They gave me the sorriest, most piece of trash shift in the place. My first night on the job I fired two people for workplace violence. That's how ridiculous it was. And in no time flat, I turned that shift around. For the past six months, the lines on my shift have either had the highest production rates, or been in 2nd place by thousandths of a percentage point. This, after that same shift had been in 3rd place of the three shifts for 4 years before I'd gotten there. I was a bona-fide miracle worker for these people! And with the economy getting worse, of all the people in that building, you choose me to let go? Why would they do this? Because, and I quote here, "You have less seniority than the other supervisors." My reply? "What? Of the six supervisors here, only two of them have been with the company longer than I have." The response? "Yeah, but you have less seniority here, at this site, than they do." Goddamnit. So, now I have to pack up all my shit, again, and move home. Fuck.
