Ohio : The Land That Ambition Forgot

I now have a place that I loathe more than New Jersey. The barren wastelands of Ohio! I've spent the past two days escorting my sister around the nightmare that is Cleveland (college visit at Case Western University). The whole landscape seemed grayed out, like a flashback, or maybe eye cancer. The automata..sorry...the "people" that "live" there seem listless and pale. And I don't mean that there was a bunch of Caucasians running around, I saw tons of other ethnic categories represented (interestingly enough, they had everything except Hispanics). I mean that Ohio has taken the delicate flower of the human soul and hidden it underneath a Dumpster, until such time as the flower withered and died. The University, for those interested, was kind of nice. But myself being a five-year landscaping/maintenance professional did note a disturbing lack of care in their facilities. They succeed in the pursuit of higher education, but fail to wrap the education in a pretty box, so to speak.

To sum up my observations of Ohio I will use a quote from Neil Gaiman in "American Gods" :

"Shadow secretly believed that if you bottled everything deep enough, and long enough, eventually you'd feel nothing at all."

And that is Ohio.
