2. BSG
3. Firefly
4. Jane Austen
5. LoTR
6. Cowboy Bebop
01. Who is your favorite character from #6?
That’s actually a really hard question. I love Ed, because she’s *so* strange, but I think my favorite is Faye. To me, Cowboy Bebop’s theme is what happens when your past catches up with you, especially if you’re not really the same person anymore. Faye’s past is my favorite back story of all the Bebop characters, and really one of the most beautifully executed back stories I’ve seen anywhere.
02. Who is your least favorite character from #4?
This is a difficult question because there are so many characters in Austen’s novels that I think I have to give a few different answers. In terms of absolutely any character, I hate John Thorpe from Northanger Abbey. He’s such an idiot. In terms of Austen heroines, Fanny Price of Mansfield Park is my least favorite. She’s an interesting character in that I think in some ways she reflects what would happen if women were really as submissive and quiet as social mores dictated they should be, and she’s involved in fascinating class issues, but I just don’t like her. I find her weak-willed and not terribly interesting. In terms of movie versions, vilest character is a tie between George Wickham in the BBC/Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice and Sir Thomas in Patricia Rozema’s Mansfield Park.
03. What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include?
Harry Potter + Lord of the Rings? Well, there’d be a lot more wizards than just Gandalf… Voldemort and Sauron would probably go at each other first, rather than at the good guys, because neither are fans of sharing power. That might actually be a good thing, have one of them finish the other off. (If you can’t tell, I’m not good at crossovers. My brain just doesn’t work that way.)
04. Who is your favorite ship from #1?
Non-canonical, I’ve really liked the few Remus/Sirius fics I’ve read. It’s a nice dynamic, and those two have such crappy lives, it’s comforting to think they had each other. Canonical, Arthur/Molly. Mollywobbles! :D
05. If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be?
::laughs:: Oh, that would be bad on so many levels, no matter who I sent! Ed and River would probably have the best time with each other. A sick and twisted part of me would like to see what would happen if I put Jayne and Jett in the same room together.
06. If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do?
Again, hard question, because the fun of a lot of Austen’s characters are their interactions. Lizzy has the most biting wit, so I guess I’d go with her if I had to just pick one, but I’m going to change the prompt a bit, because I can. ;) If I could travel to one book for one day, I’d go to a dinner party in Persuasion and meet all of Anne’s Navy friends, particularly Admiral and Mrs. Croft.
07. If you could change one thing about #2's plotline, what would you change?
LOVE=/=BABIES, DAMN IT! Yeah, I’d scrap the whole it takes love to make babies schtick, and either go with Cylons can’t reproduce until they give up immortality, because immortals that multiply is a bad combination, or just leave it open-ended. Maybe genetically, all seven just drew short straws. Maybe Ellen designed them sterile or near-sterile because she was so upset that she couldn’t have children herself. Anything but love.
08. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them.
Frodo and Sam-what is there to say? Sam is *always* there for Frodo. You couldn’t ask for a better friend.
09.If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be?
You’re seriously making me choose between Harry and Mal? Part of me says Mal, because Harry could probably save himself with magic. Part of me says Harry, because I’m imagining that Mal is drowning at the end of the imaginary seventh season of Firefly, that he’s finally regained his lost idealism to some extent and is dying in some heroic way, and who am I to deprive Mal of his redemption arc? Anyway, yeah, I essentially didn’t answer that question ;).
10. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like and what would their role be?
Of course, *now* I have the cross-over idea. :P I’d send somebody like Shepherd Book to the Bebop. He’d make a good bounty hunter, and he could still do the spiritual shepherding on the side. Spike would make for as much of a full-time shepherding project as Mal does. Jett and Book would be like Jayne and Book, only intellectual. Ed would befuddle Book just as much as River does.
11. What happens in your favorite episode of show #2?
I am not at *all* a Kara/Lee person, but I love “Unfinished Business.” I love the music, the cinematography, and especially the structure, getting me to invest so heavily in little moments that have already happened and probably don’t have much significance in the grand scheme of things.
12. If you could kill off one of the characters of #1, who would it be and how would you do it?
Dolores Umbrage, smushed to death by a giant stack of those horrible Defense Against the Dark Arts kiddie books she used as textbooks.
13. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose?
Well, I sort of have visited the “set” of LoTR, New Zealand. (I hugged the Party Tree!) So, I guess I’d go to Serenity, because that would mean Firefly would still be on the air and coming out with new episodes…
14. So, I saved the best question for last. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person?
I guess that would have to be Henry Tilney from Austen’s Northanger Abbey or Simon from Firefly. The elder Weaselys are the only HP characters that are really in my age-range, and I’d be afraid to date Fred or George, even if they’d be fun to be around. As for BSG, I love Sam and I love Gaeta, among others, but Sam and I would be better as friends, and Gaeta fancies men. The Bebop crew all have *way* too much baggage. The idea of anyone in the LoTR ‘verse but the hobbits ever actually dating strikes me as funny; I see them more as “courting” people myself.
