Taking a cue from
prophetkristy , 5 things to blog about (I couldn't come up with 13. I'm starting out small ;) ).
1) I am not a comic book person, not out of any snobbery, but because, kind of embarrassingly, I'm bad at reading them. I tend to match up the speech balloons to the wrong characters and read things out of order or matched with the wrong pictures. That makes for confusing reading. But to find out the
back-story of Shepherd Book and
more stories about Wash (WASH!!), I might just do it. Has anyone read the other Firefly comics, I think they were called Better Days? What did you think of them? Should I pick those up, too, when the Shepherd Book one comes out?
2) NO MORE BUNNIES!! I have finals coming up soon, and yet another one is nibbling now, really hard. I've got an idea that I absolutely love for prompt at
lgbtfest of Gaeta/Hoshi AU where they decide to adopt. You'd think it'd be a perfect opportunity for humor (see
trovia 's Gaeta/Tory ficlets ;) ), but mine is really quite sad. But still--ugh, I want to write it so bad, but stupid papers and exams are getting in the way...
3)
Enver Gjorkaj's upcoming project has induced an anticipatory giggle fit in me. "Previously on Point Dume" (which, funnily enough, is a real place in Malibu, according to Google) is a web series that's a parodic "previously" recap of a supernatural soap opera that doesn't exist. Enver plays two parts in the series: Ron and Bron, two hot landscapers who are so egotistical they can't decide whether they hate or are oddly attracted to each other. Neither one ever wears a shirt. The first recap/episode premieres Monday
here. Be there or be square.

Rumor has it the next Dr. Horrible installment may be a feature film. I have mixed feelings. On the plus side, it would be awesome for what are mainly TV actors to get some big screen exposure so everyone can appreciate their awesomeness. Also, any Dr. Horrible is good Dr. Horrible. My feelings are mixed, though, because I really thought it was well-suited to the web format, and I'm afraid that making it into a movie will either not be successful or will force it to lose some of its delightful quirkiness in order to be successful. I'm really excited about the future of TV and movie-like web content, particularly web series, and I think Dr. Horrible's combination of smart, geeky content, actors that may not be stars in the Hollywood sense but are within the genre (NPH excepted), and a big-name producer with an already-established online fanbase that's good at word-of-mouth/keyboard promotion, is the perfect storm to make a web series work, with the right business model.
5)
Rumor also has it that Syfy is in talks with RDM to maybe do another BSG and/or Caprica spinoff, in some sort of "innovative," non-traditional, non-normal-series format. I'm as curious about whatever this new format is as I am about any possible story, but that's just my media geek side showing. If you were pitching ideas, what part of the BSG 'verse would you like to see more stories told in? From the "yay stuff blowing up" standpoint, the obvious answer is the First Cylon War; I think I'd be most interested in some New Caprica stories, since that would give us an opportunity to see some characters I love again, though.
