Random Bits
I don't feel like going to the gym yet, so I'm procrastinating by writing a random update on not much at all.
bsg_remix is in full swing, and I'm really enjoying a lot of the fics over there, especially some about characters that I don't normally read quite as much about. I really need to get into Boomer and/or Athena fic. I'm not overwhelmingly interested in Helo/Athena romance-centered fic, mostly because that story is told pretty thoroughly in canon, but fic about those characters is intriguing me more and more. I find Cylons's memories--fake, shared, what have you--especially fascinating. I think memory is one of my two or three major "fic kinks," even though it's not really limited to fic. For example, I love Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin for its unique structure and how that plays into the idea of how memories shape characters and characters shape memories.
I have to admit, I'm getting a little antsy to see the story remixed for me. I stared at my fic master list for a few minutes, and I have no inkling of what my remixee might have picked. There was kind of a rush of Gaeta/gaeta_squeers fic at the beginning that got me all excited, and now I'm having a hard time being patient. Who else from gaeta_squee is still waiting to see their remixes? blue_crow, troiva, and puszysty?
It's been fun playing "guess the writer" at the remix. There were a few that I knew instantly, a couple others that I'm debating between two people, and then a few that feel like, considering the characters involved, I should be familiar with the writer, but I can't figure out for the life of me. Anybody know about when the remix will be wrapping up? I'm excited for all the reveals already!
I noticed something very amusing yesterday. I was procrastinating (seeing a trend?) by watching a few snippets of the second Donald Strachey movie again. One of my favorite scenes is where...well, it's easier with pictures.
Donald Strachey is a private investigator. He is not in this picture. The cute guy with the glasses is Donald's partner, Timmy, who is a state senator's aid. (And yes, that's the same actor who plays Narcho. Glasses suit him, don't they?) The guy shaking Timmy's hand is Kenny, Donald's new secretary/office manager/associate investigator (Kenny promotes himself every time he answers the phone). This pic is from the first time Timmy and Kenny meet face-to-face in Donald's office, while Donald is out. Kenny sticks his foot in his mouth--several times--by not realizing that Timmy and Donald are partners, even though Timmy makes it pretty clear. (And then caps it off with an "I'm sorry. I just didn't think Donald was into older m--...uh, can I get you a coffee?")
This scene is very funny in and of itself, but here's what made it even funnier this time around. See that poster-sized photo hanging on the wall by Kenny's desk? You know, the one of two men who look suspiciously like Donald and Timmy? You think maybe someone trying to become a private investigator like Kenny is should have keen enough powers of observation to pick up on the fact that his boss might possibly involved with the guy he's with in a giant wedding photo on his wall? :D
