SO much love for this fic :) The bit about the Cylon coming to the Rising Sun was inspired, btw. I loved that. And Gaius's section is just absolutely beautiful, as is the ascent.

I am SO glad you did big bang this year!!! :)

Thank you so much for beta'ing! I'm really glad I did big bang this year, too, but I'm not sure I could've gotten it all done without your help.

I do love Felix finally rejoining his life. Gaius being the one to give it back to him and Louis being there when he emerges is perfect. I agree with lls_mutant the elevator ascending was a lovely image.

I greatly enjoyed this story and you must write big bang again next year.

Thanks! I worried that the ascent was a little too on-the-nose, but I'm glad you liked it.

We'll see! I'm hoping that "Gaeta and Hoshi and Dee Save the World with Math" is done before then, but maybe I'll have another big bang-length idea...

I really enjoyed this fic. It's painful to read, watching Felix devolve like that, but it's really interesting to see the path he could have gone down.

Given their history, and the final scene we got between them in canon, I think Gaius was the perfect choice to pull Felix out of his hole.

I don't know that I could write this dark and twisty on a regular basis, but it was interesting to try it out for one fic. And as for Gaius, yeah, there was never any other option in my mind for that role.

Thanks for reading!

I remember you writing a summary description of this at one point, saying that Felix becomes a prostitute and not being able to summarize the rest of your vision with anything other than something like - it's not what it sounds like. Well you definitely found the words when writing. It was a brilliant idea to take a main character into the fleet to work thorough his guilt. So much better than RDM's method of sending them down a bottle.

I loved the way his influence continued with every encounter with a figure from his past. And of course they way each figure let him shed another part of himself.
And of course being his being able to rise go back after he had both let go of everything and was ready to completely sacrifice himself. It was all so consistently and believably Gaeta. Everyone else was portrayed so well and insightfully. I wish I could think of more to say about this very classic journey of descent and ascension.

Thanks. I think what made this story so hard to summarize was that I didn't want it to be false advertising--I mean, when you hear "prostitute!Felix," I'm not sure this is the kind of story people would be expecting. But it was a really interesting story for me to write, so I'm glad you found it a compelling story to read.

I really wish we'd gotten to see more of life in the Fleet in the series. Writing this impressed upon me just how tough it would've been to make that work, because they really would've needed someone from the Galactica family to leave and go out into the Fleet to do it right. And then you still have to connect it back up with the Galactica storyline...doable, yes, but very tricky. I was really happy with how the structure of this fic let me balance OCs with digging through the baggage of characters we know and love, though.

Thank you so much for reading!

Kappa, I have so much love for this story. I can't even properly put it into words, but I just am enthralled by the headspace you got Felix into, and to be honest I can see it so well with the alternate Eight story you gave him. (And ok yes, the theater major in me loved his Lady Macbeth imagery.)

Every one of these encounters is fascinating and brilliantly in character. And the bit at the end with Louis and Gaius together, conspiring to bring Felix back to a better place, is lovely.

Also, the unshown and ever more ominous for it enounters with Dillon. Part of me wants to read that darkness, but the tone of the story worked so well to have it left to the imagination. That was quite a balancing act, and it really worked.

*Finally* getting around to responding to comments--sorry for the delay. Whew, I'm glad I don't have to take Felix into this headspace often, because it was sad and shivery and I really needed a break from darkness once I was done.

That's also a big reason behind why I left things with Dillon mostly unspoken. Dillon was a late addition; he wasn't in the original outline, and even when he was added, for a long time he was pretty minor. But his presence made the Felix POV sections much more urgent and risky, so his role grew. Anyway, I'm glad what was left unspoken still worked, and who knows, maybe somebody who's more comfortable with dark and twisty than I will want to remix it someday...

Thanks so much for reading!
