Black Friday to Widescreen Tuesday

I actually took part in the consumer-fest on Friday since I am looking for a few gadgets. Specifically, a monitor and a CD player for my car. My old monitor was the last piece of my first computer I bought myself back in 2001, and that old Dell CRT was still chugging along nicely and still had a beautiful, clear picture. Eventually though, you ( Read more... )

I keep looking at the crickets at the pet store, but even the small ones are still too large, about half an inch long and bigger than the gecko's head. Mealworms are likewise too large for this little guy too. But I haven't looked into waxworms yet... if PetSmart even carries those. One guy suggested bloodworms which are apparently good to eat even when they're dead, but this little guy won't touch anything it unless it's alive.

I did start him out on the smaller fruit flies (D. melanogaster) since that was the only thing tiny enough :) But now he eats D. hydei, the larger fruit fly, and could probably go for another food upgrade, if there was somethng that could fill that niche!

I can understand a CD player for a car...But why would you want a monitor for your car? ;)

Personally, I think the factory stereos sound better then any aftermarket car stereo I have ever heard, but if you want a CD player and don't have one there really is no choice. I can advise on home audio, but don't know too much about the car stereo market except they certainly like to spend money on fancy lights.

If your monitor still works, you could always drop it off at refurbish computer place. Goodwill takes them also. You may not get anything out of it, but someone further off may.

I've looked at aftermarket CD players for my Jeep, and I've yet to find a good one that doesn't look For The Kids. Aftermarket stereos have horrible tactile interfaces, but light up in 15 colors.

The good news is that a cheapie aftermarket CD player around $150 can take MP3 discs, has an audio jack to plug other stuff in, and is probably ready for satellite radio.

I'd be fine with a tiny audio jack that lives in the dashboard I can plug an MP3 player into. Fewer moving parts! :P
