I have some words (all nice) to spend on shows I recently watched... or rather: the first seasons of them.
In Treatment:
I really liked this one. Great actors all around, gripping dialogue... what more can you want? The problem just is... (though it's not a problem at all, just merely an observation) ...it doesn't really invite you for a rewatch. Once you're through with the episodes, you just don't go "Yay! Now let's start with it all over again!". It simply a show you watch for actors doing a great job, not necessarily for plot. And of course I might be wrong about it... but it just doesn't feel like you'd get much more out of the show if you see the episodes for a second time. I mean... it is good, but in the end I had a bit of an empty feeling in my stomach. But anyway, a 7,5/10 from me.
Blake's 7:
Wow, for a show from the late 70s this felt surprisingly modern. Okay, probably not from the SFX- and design-point of view... but the storytelling is pretty close to shows of our age. We have arc-episodes, standalones, episodes which are a mix of both, episodes which just focus on a single character... and so on. There's even a season cliffhanger (!), pretty uncommon and unusual for these days. In fact, you could probably take those scripts and shoot them all over just as they are without anybody noticing that they're three decades old. Well, okay... maybe no series in the world would spend three to four episodes until the premise and all characters are fully set... but all the stories from episode five onwards? No objection. Also, much has been made of the similarities between this show and "Firefly"... and while I do see them, they're merely superficial and don't go much further than the premise and characters sharing some traits. So who cares and bothers? Anyway, looking forward to the second season. 8,5/10
Chuck:
Pretty good! Very, very good even! I don't feel the LOVE yet, but since everybody says that the second season is even better, I can see it coming once I'll see it. The characters are cool and engaging, the humour is very funny (I was laughing out loud a lot of times) and not a single episode in sight that I would actually call weak or even bad. The only thing I don't care for is that relationshippy hodgepodge between the characters, especially since it's written in a not too inspired way and develops quite predictably... which makes it even more tiresome to watch than it probably is. Also, Sarah is a bit dull. But I'm sure they all sort it out in the second season... which I'm definitely going to watch when the DVDs are out. Which will be in... October? I guess? 8/10
I also started to watch the first season of "William Shatner vs the UFOs of the 60s". Dunno if you ever heard of it... but I'll inform you about it once I'm finished. ;)
