Memoirs of a Geisha - The Rant
I think that some of you have probably heard about the whole ruckus with Memoirs of a Geisha. And yes, I am rather pissed off that they are getting Chinese Actors/Actresses to play the main roles.
It's really disheartening to know that Japan has very good actors and actresses, but they don't get enough notice because a fuckhat by the name of Rob Marshall doesn't want to search hard enough for them. Nah, he would rather have the name.
Ever heard of The Rape of Nanking? I have Chinese people shouting in one ear, and Japanese shouting in another ear. We're screaming because of our wounded pride and because the movie industry is further proliferating the ignorance about Japanese culture, in an attempt to make a sappy-assed love story based on a book. (And if you didn't know, Arthur Golden is given too much credit. His muse was Mineko Iwasaki. He didn't do all of this by himself. If you knew how much shit that Iwasaki went through, you would be pissed too.) This film is like getting a Neo-Nazi to play a Jew, or vice versa.
So good job, Marshall, you asshole. You've done a good job of proliferating the stereotype that "All asian people look alike." You are just as bad as Gwen Stefani, in my eyes.
