So on last friday, I baked some cookies! OMG THEY ACTLY LOOK LIKE THE COOKIE YUI IS EATING ON MY LJ PIC!!! (except slightly more out of shape and 100% less tasty. I mean, look at her expression of pure bliss as she's eating it.. ahh YUI <3!!). I guess it wasn't too bad, and common opinion holds that it's quite good (though they may just be patronising me T_T). Guess it was quite fun to bake again after not baking for so long. Kinda promised a few people more baking treats so I guess I'll get more chances to practice! :D
Then on Saturday, I went to a wet market in the morning to buy ingredients with my mom. ._. I guess it's kinda like my first experience, and I was just trying hard not to slip on the super wet and slippery floor with my worn-out slippers. ><" Then at night (after a brief 1hour session of playing with some kids, which consisted of me reading children's storybooks to them and playing lego; CLEM ARE U INTERESTED xP) I got down to cooking Beef Rendang based on some cookbook.
The ingredients list was like as long as my arm, as I wasn't using premade rendang paste so I had to like make a paste and mix the ingredients together. It was quite troublesome, but at least I learnt how to prepare some staple ingredients like onions, garlic, ginger, etc. Oh, and I also fried some vegetables, though that was soooo easy compared to the rendang. The results are below:
Vegetables: easy stuff. Heat up the oil. throw some chopped garlic inside, wait for the nice smell, dump all the vegetables in, stir the vegetables around in a seemingly-cheflike fashion, use your innate chef abilities to estimate amount of salt thrown in, and VIOLA NICE VEGGIES. Damn easy, as compared to...
EFFING TROUBLESOME!!! ZZZ!!! Cooking this takes like 2 hours or even more (like 45 mins for preparing all the ingredients (noob chef that I am) and 1 hour plus for the cooking), and the beef still came out super tough ): At least it smells kinda nice and the sauce was kinda not too bad but the beef was just super super tough. D: Then my mum went to ask the Indian cleaner working at her office and she said that you must cook the meat for TWO HOURS PLUS WTF. So, Beef Rendang v2 coming up next week! New and improved version!!! RAAAWWRR
So that's it. Noob-but-aspiring Chef Kan signing off. D:
