NaNoWriMo "scandals"!?!
I've paid zero attention to the NaNoWriMo organization, and didn't think anybody had to. The idea is enough -- write 1,667 words per day for a month, and, poof you've written a novel.
But, unverifiable accusations on the internet about child predators volunteering for the official NaNoWriMo organization ... plus endless accusations of poor management ... WTF? I didn't even know there was a way via the organization for anybody to meet children. But, of course, where you find children, you find child predators, they are terribly widespread. Just like rapists in general. I mean, one is running for President as the Republican and he's getting 46% of the vote despite the jury verdict that he sexually abused a woman.
None of that has anything to do with the simple idea of making a goal to write something during November. When I've tried to do it, I've enjoyed it.
I feel like everything in the world has to become an online culture war now. Like fighting over Columbus Day vs. Indigenous People's Day when only 14% of employers give people that day off anyway. Columbus didn't even discover any of the territory of a US state, but I get a day off from work in 2024.
And now people are up in arms because NaNoWriMo said it was OK if you received help from an AI to write your No -- who the fuck cares! I'm batting around some plot ideas with ChatGPT, how is that fundamentally different from searching the internet for writing prompts, or asking your coworkers if they have any interesting plot ideas? AI isn't going away, just like calculators never went away, so we may as well teach people how to use AI effectively. I'm trying to coach ChatGPT to give me more original and interesting ideas because they sound bland and unoriginal so far.
The main reason I would decide NOT to run for political office in the US is because people here are just too stupid anyway, what's the point. Just let them destroy everything. That's what our people are best at. Take something fun like NaNoWriMo and turn it into a culture war.
