Look, we have to stop growing our population and production exponentially, or we're going to boil off the oceans a couple centuries from now.
This has nothing to do with the struggle between capitalism and socialism.
Before we exploited fossil fuels, we had neither capitalism nor socialism, we had slavery and feudalism. Both capitalism and socialism are children of the Industrial Revolution, which utterly depended on exploiting fossil fuels. Socialism is actually a variant of capitalism, in which the profits are shared among the working class, but socialism still depends on capital investment, labor, markets, and profits.
When most people are poor, then you have a small elite who scramble to the top to be not-poor, that's how humanity does humanity. So, under my Global Green Communism, yeah, there'd be an elite few running the show who have beach houses and servants and whatnot, all in the name of equality. Read "Animal Farm".
But at least we wouldn't be boiling off the oceans.
I wonder whether, decades from now, when exponential climate change has become absolutely undeniable, whether people will make the choice to stop growing. Or will they just keep accelerating exponentially toward apocalypse with eyes wide open. Placing bets on when the last drop of water will have evaporated.
