I'm a child rapist too?
I can't even read the replies to my comment from the other day, they're so mean. My inbox over on Substack shows me the first dozen words or so of each reply, and that's enough.
But this notion that "children cannot consent" -- they consent or not to all kinds of things every day. Haven't you ever heard a child say, "No!" Haven't you ever heard a child repeatedly beg for something? I remember life as a child and wanting some things and not wanting other things. I remember being forced to do things I didn't consent to.
So why couldn't a child consent to become the other sex? And why does that freak people the fuck out? And why does even contemplating this possibility mean I'm a child rapist too?
Reading those two essays has changed my own approach to gender and sex, however. I'm still figuring it out. Might write about it later.
