The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and D.C.'s Department of Energy and Environment issued a “Code Purple” air quality alert, indicating very unhealthy air conditions for everyone, not just those with respiratory illnesses. They said the situation was unprecedented. Code Purple is the second-worst of six color-coded levels in the air quality index (AQI).
“The D.C. region has not previously recorded a Code Purple day for fine particle pollution,” the council’s statement said.

I was ready for trouble breathing, I wasn't ready for having a physical and emotional meltdown as the Code Purple smokewave moved through Kemp Mill. I have a different appreciation now for what some people are going through when the air pollution gets this bad.
What today most reminds me of is back during MAL when I was coming down with norovirus but I didn't realize yet I was sick. It was a sort of "I'm poisoned and my immune system is reacting strongly" sensation, my immune system forcing me to shut everything down and crawl into bed.
