6 miles, 6 miles, 6 miles!!!

It didn't feel as glorious as my 5-mile run last week, because I ran a completely new route, and about a mile into this unfamiliar trail -- THE TRAIL WAS CLOSED DUE TO MAJOR CONSTRUCTION!  But I'd planned my 6-mile route on Google Maps at the house, and didn't have my phone with me, so what was I to do?  And why didn't Google Maps warn me?

I temporarily ran off the trail into the woods, to circumvent this construction, creating my own detour.  Running through actual woods is not easy, especially when the plants close to the ground have THORNS.  At least I was wearing sweatpants, so most of the thorns didn't penetrate my skin.  [Later T was concerned -- what if I'd fallen in the woods where nobody could find me without my phone.]

On the way back I ran off the trail in the other direction, toward the rear of some tall buildings, and ran on their lawns and through the junk in back of the buildings instead.  No thorns.

I also didn't have familiar mile markers (either along the trail, or in my head) like I do when I run the same trails over and over, like I have almost every time I've gone running since moving to this house in 2006.  So I wasn't sure when to take my walk breaks.  I had to wing it.  And on my way back I was never exactly sure how much farther I had to run, in terms of miles.

[I own an ancient Garmin running watch that would've helped, had I charged it ahead of time and worn it.]

But I ran 6 miles (give or take, with the two detours)!  I think next time I'll run one of the routes I already know well.  So, yes, I hope there is a next time, I want to run 6 miles again, ideally next week before I go to LA.  I want running 6 miles once per week to feel normal for a while.  If I don't injure myself, I'll consider increasing the mileage some more, maybe to train for a half-marathon distance, which I haven't done since I broke my foot in 2017.  I think the farthest I've run since the fracture was 8 miles, back before the pandemic.  I think I ran 8 miles exactly once after breaking my foot, to prove I could do it without breaking my foot again.

Now that I've had time to relax after the day's run -- yes, I'm really happy that I've run 6 miles again.  And I hope to do so again soon :-)

I cooked a meal for T, he made cocktails for us, and now we're just catching up on stuff.  He's heading out Friday morning, and it doesn't look like we'll try to put up Christmas before then.  We'll see what we can do when he gets back, to prepare for our traditional Christmas Eve party, assuming neither of us gets sick this time.

I didn't sleep well last night, with T's impending arrival, and then his actual arrival, plus the weird dreams I had.  I'm about ready to go to bed now, but then I'll wake at 2am LOL.  Which is OK.

I did catch up on my laundry before T thought about doing his own.

I finished the book I was reading!  I need to choose the next one.

6 miles, motivation
