Your basic trash/recycling RTO Monday, except for commuting back home after dark for the first time since early 2020. Although traffic is usually lighter on a Monday it didn't feel that way this evening. Local traffic hasn't been this bad in the evening since I returned to the office about six months ago.
I had a can of soup with some crackers for dinner, now I can chill for the evening. No intoxicants tonight.
My last evening to self until I return from Portland next Monday (I'm seeing DavidS tomorrow evening, flying to Portland on Wednesday). I thought of having dinner with B on my way home but then decided preserving my last evening to self was more important. Not sure how I'll spend it yet. Quietly and early to bed? I had plenty of fun with toys yesterday.
I feel a bit like I might be coming down with a cold. It's not clear yet either way. Would be very annoying if I got a cold right before flying to Portland. But it could just be my regular asthma & rhinitis, I often get false alarms where my airway thinks it is coming down with a cold but then feels fine the next day. I'll suck on a couple Zinc lozenges before bed, my favorite placebo.
My new luggage arrived! It looks the right size. I'll look at it more closely later.
Was 81 degrees in DC today, a record high for the date. But we're supposed to finally have a hard freeze at the house next week, so tomorrow I need to decide what to do about the two big plants that are still outside. I'll also need to close up the sunroom.

And the endless midterm elections finally end tomorrow.
I can't help but notice that the two main issues Democrats are running on for tomorrow's election are things they haven't done anything about -- securing abortion rights and protecting voting rights. No new laws on either issue were passed by this Congress, because Senate Democrats weren't willing/able to dump the filibuster, and weren't willing/able to compromise with 10 Republicans. So, Democrats are running on these two issues that even if you re-elect them --> they won't do anything about.
And only 3% of those polled listed election integrity or voting rights as a major reason they're voting. Abortion is the only pro-Democratic issue making it into double digits, but, again, they didn't do anything to protect abortion rights at the national level. (Republicans won't do anything to restrict abortions at the national level either.)
The two top issues voters mention to pollsters: make Congress more productive, and reduce the cost of living. Inflation is still 8%, and people feel Democrats barely did anything with their majority. Even the prescription drug price controls for Seniors that passed this year don't take effect until at least 2026, WTF. That leaves plenty of time for Republicans to cancel them before anybody sees them. How can Democrats come up with more effective leaders? By continuing to vote for the current set of ineffective and elderly Democratic leaders?
Also, I've never received so many junk texts from Democratic campaigns before. I block them all. They keep coming. Sending me unsolicited texts begging for money is not free speech, it is a form of pollution.
2022,
