Sure, putting sanctions on Russian exports of fuel and food (2/3 of Russian exports) would hurt the global poor, unless world governments stepped in with subsidies for the poor, which might have to be financed by higher taxes on the wealthy, and nobody wants that, so we'll sacrifice Ukraine to the maws of the bear, because we can't possibly ask the wealthy to sacrifice any of their wealth for world peace (or anything else).

Under GWB's Global War on Terror we learned that the US was not willing to sacrifice anything, except the lives and limbs of its military volunteers -- now there's a true set of working class people, starting salary $20,340 -- in its prosecution of those who refused to go along with US military & economic dominance. Taxes were not raised (they were cut instead!), a military draft was not enacted, GWB's GWOT would be "paid for" via borrowing and poorly-paid volunteers.
Now under Biden's physical retreat from GWB's Global War on Terror (i.e., leaving its original field of Afghanistan), we've learned that the US is not willing to sacrifice anything in the application of economic sanctions on its rivals -- any economic sanctions must be small enough as to not disturb global financial markets.
Global financial markets don't give a damn about democracy, and couldn't care less about avoiding war.
Dow Jones Average on day before World War One: 79.07
Dow Jones Average on last day of World War One: 88:06
No sacrifice for the wealthy.
Dow Jones Average on day before World War Two: 134.41
Dow Jones Average on last day of World War Two: 173.90
Again, no sacrifice for the wealthy. And these were our largest wars. The Dow Jones Average also went up during the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and the Global War on Terror (which Obama declared over on 23 May 2013, although ...).
Whatever the US may sacrifice in either fighting a war, or opposing a war, the stock market must be protected at all costs! The world is ruled by the Dow Jones Average, not by the US, China, or Russia.

Looks like I'll be adding aid to refugees to my list of charities. My 2022 charities are: animal shelters and animal welfare; people who need help paying for birth control, abortions, or adoptions; people who can't afford to buy food for their families; and refugees. And my political contributions mostly go to Green parties around the world.
