Tomorrow morning I'll be up and out of here early, will begin my work day from the condo, so T can begin his three-day virtual meditation retreat at 10am.  I will likely stay there until Monday -- which is a (somewhat controversial) federal holiday.  Monday would also be a Maids Day, but I'm going to call to have that rescheduled.

I'm having a good ( Read more... )

I think I vaguely remember...
For music production, people more tended to use Apple operating systems. One thing is a different system stability than with Windows, another could be the software you can get for it and how easy to use it is.

Well... I do know the sight of trackers way more though.
It's a bit of a different approach to composing music, as it works by samples primarily, but, indeed, a low budget way of finding out if you actually have talent for composing.
These days the composing with them should be way easier as such things as sample CDs and whole sample and drumloop packages are available for purchase and use.
(Btw, as getting upon the topic, does the Kontakt program still exist? Never seen it, but I know such a program named like that existed... Had its very own file format to feed it with which no other knew what to do with...)

Kontakt still exists, although I hadn't heard of it before -- but I'm certainly no expert on state-of-the-art music production software or hardware.

I think me neither.
Just dove into the materia a long, long time ago - and learned basic how the basic structures of the music I listen to come together.
(That's sometimes way more than average people know/understand about composing electronic music - if you hear someone throwing in the standard phrase "computer music is no music as the machine does it all by themselves for you", then you know they have no idea what they're talking about and never took a look into the craft. 'Cause, if you have some idea about it, then you know it's not so easy to do. You don't vomit a song and there it is - nice art to listen to...)

You remind me of what I loved most about my GarageBand projects of 8 years ago -- they made me appreciate the music I listen to, from knowing what sort of labor goes into the production. Not taking music for granted.

Also, from recording lyrics, knowing how you have to throw your own emotions into the mix to make the music work, it's not only an intellectual labor, but also an emotional labor.
