For security reasons, we don't do any of our work conferences over Zoom, and due to VPN bandwidth limitations, we don't use any other kind of videoconference service for work purposes. [OTOH, Tod has set up his work-from-home office as a virtual studio, he's on video all the friggin' time.]
But for socializing, yikes, suddenly between now and next Wednesday evening my division has scheduled three Zoom parties, totaling 4.5 hours of Zoom socializing.
No. I don't want to do any of these. No!
I did our first division Zoom party, even though I didn't want to. But after trying that first Zoom party, I just don't want to do any more. Regular in-person work parties were bad enough, but at least I could find a few of the more compatible coworkers to stand next to, could talk to them for a polite period of time, and then disappear. With a Zoom party, only one person can talk at a time, and we're all looking awful on videocam, and, fuck, no.
As a supervisor I "ought" to attend these things, but, fuck, no.
I thought fuck no for the first one, but I attended anyway, so, as we all know I cannot control my future self, but, fuck, no.
The invitations say they are "voluntary" but you all know what that really means. Sigh. I may suddenly have COVID-19 at 11:30am.
