Cryptocurrencies as an aggregate class are down an astounding 88% so far this year. The S&P 500 stock index has never gone down that far in a year. The worst year on record for stocks was 1931, when the S&P 500 dropped 44%. US Treasury Bonds have never even declined 10% in a year. I don't think there is a comparable decline for a class of investment asset in US history. Gold has never dropped that far, oil has never dropped that far. Real estate has never dropped that far. The US Dollar has never dropped that far.
Cryptocurrencies weren't just a bubble, they were the worst bubble in the history of modern finance. And the reason is because there's nothing there. Cryptocurrencies are hot air, empty boxes, hyperelectronic fantasies.
Personally, I would ban them, because not only are they the worst investment opportunity ever, but they burn a tremendous amount of electricity and thereby contribute to global warming. Hot air indeed.
