It occurred to me last night that the accelerating expansion of the universe due to dark energy, which will ultimately fling the other galaxies away from us faster than the speed of light, is the opposite of black holes, in which gravity becomes so strong that light can not escape ( Read more... )

One of my favorite ideas was in an episode of Through the Wormhole, where a French scientist looked at the cosmic microwave background for patterns to see what its shape beyond what we can directly observe might be. And the interacting waves show the Universe is a dodecahedron 20 billion light-years across with wrap-around geometry (IE if you fly straight you'll end up where you started)
