Our mothers are bestfriends. Have been since young.
The day after my birth, Satoshi's mother visited and she brought him along. He must have been only one and a few months old. My mother laughs everytime she tells it.

Even then, Satoshi wanted to hold and touch me.

Age 1: Sho sat by himself and he clumsily stacked the blocks. He frowned when they toppled. And then another chubby boy plopped himself beside him. Satoshi picked them up and started over again.
Happiness. "Hiiii~!" Sho smiled with delight at his new friend.

Age 2: On the playground, the older boys were playing tag and Sho wanted to join in. He tried to follow with his short stubby legs. "Aghahaha!" he screamed, but they paid him no attention. He fell over and his palms scraped against the ground. Tears welled up. It hurt.
Satoshi laid down beside him. He smiled and so Sho stopped crying.

Age 3: He stood beside Satoshi at the window. It was dark out and both of them continued to stare at the snow that fell steadily. And then the older boy broke that silence. "Pretty..." he said.
"What's that?" Sho asked innocently.
Instead of answering, small Satoshi reached out and took his hand. "Pretty..." he repeated.
Sho curled his little fingers around the other boy's. "Pretty."

Age 4: "Happy birthday to you~!" the kids sang. Satoshi was not among them. At his side, his mother whispered, "Blow the candles, Sho."
"Where is Satoshi?" he asked. His vision blurred. He couldn't breathe. Where is his friend?
"We're here!" a woman's voice shouted. Mrs. Sakurai looked up and beamed when she saw her bestfriend.
"Finally!" she screamed.
A gentle touch came at Sho's shoulder. He knew Satoshi was there.

Age 5: "Sho!" the older boy shouted as he ran towards him.
Sho's face lit up. All day, he had been waiting for his friend to return from school. They met eachother halfway.

Age 6: School ended. Sho sobbed and wiped his sore eyes. "Th-they broke it! My pencil!"
Satoshi stopped him from crying on his sleeve by taking the small hand. "I'll give you mines, okay?"
Sho looked up. "B-but--"
Satoshi added quietly, "Let's go home."
The younger boy nodded.

Age 7: "Sho-kun!" The boys on the playground waved at him to join them, but he shook his head. He was waiting for Satoshi. Only him.

Age 8: As punishment, the girls made their friend kiss a boy on the cheek. The boy was Sho. After the innocent peck, he was surprised at how soft the girl's lips had been. The girls squealed as one group. Sho's vision cleared and he saw Satoshi standing in front of him.
"Satoshi..." he started, startled.
The older boy grinned half-heartedly as if to say everything was okay. And ran off.

Age 9: Sho passed the soccerball to another member and paused to wipe the sweat off his forehead. He turned and saw a group of girls approach Satoshi who sat in a daze.
Dammit. He couldn't help glaring and clenching his jaw. If only he could tell those annoying girls to leave.

Age 10: "Sho."
He looked up from his writing as Satoshi sat beside him. "When did you get here?"
Satoshi chose to ignore his question. "Look," he said and opened his sketchbook. A DragonBall Z character.
"Cool..." Sho breathed and for the first time in a while, his friend shone at the appreciation.
Just like that, the older boy stood and saluted with a bright smile on his lips. "I'm leaving. Have fun studying."

Age 11: "I like Sakurai the most," Sho overheard the girls gossip.
In his seat, he blushed and turned away. But. If only someone else had said that. Someone that mattered.

Age 12: He sighed.
"You're graduating from grade school this year, right?" Satoshi asked him.
Sho nodded. "I'll be going to your junior high," he told the older boy with pride.
However, his friend shook his head. "Sho, you should've chosen another school, a better school."
To that he could only frown. If only Satoshi knew how boring class was without him.

Age 13: "He's so small, isn't he?" the captain of the soccer team asked while observing Sho who wanted to disappear on the spot.
"Sho!" a familiar voice called out. He looked up and across the gym. There was Satoshi and the badmington club. The older boy smiled and suddenly Sho felt courageous. He stood a little straighter, a little taller.
The captain saw his determination and nodded. "Alright. He will do."

Age 14: They were alone in the classroom. He sat on the desk so that the girl had to stand on her tip-toes. She bent her head back and kissed him. Her lips were soft and sweet. But somehow... it felt wrong. A sudden noise distracted them. They gasped and turned, but it was only Satoshi at the door. Not the sensei. Only Satoshi.
"Sempai!" the girl sighed with relief, but Sho could not speak.
Satoshi waved a hand and began to walk away. "I'll wait outside until you're done, Sho," he said nonchalently. And the fact that he didn't seem to care hurt.

Age 15: Sho held Satoshi's head in place firmly as he kissed the older boy hard.
"Geh!" Satoshi successfull broke away. "What are you doing!?" he gasped.
Sho shrugged as if it didn't matter. "It's only a kiss, Satoshi. No big deal."

Age 16: The locker room. The inside of Satoshi's mouth was warm. Sho cupped his face gently as he explored the interior with his tongue. It was both chilly and burning. He started to heat up even before the game. Between his legs, he felt his hardness. But then Satoshi pulled back and wiped the saliva from his lips. "Sho, the match's about to start. Hurry up and go."
Sho kissed his forehead one more time before running off. This making out had been going on for a year, ever since that first kiss. But no big deal. Right? It was just between friends.

Age 17: He slowly approached the two sitting peacefully together in the cafeteria. Satoshi was munching happily on bread. The girl saw him. "Hello, Sakurai. Want some bread? We made it in Home Ec."
"No," he muttered darkly. His friend continued to enjoy his lunch without a care in the world. Stupid Satoshi.
She giggled. "Isn't he cute?"
"Yeah," Sho drawled moodily. He slapped his notebook down on the table and sat facing the other way, unable to stand the look of Satoshi enjoying a girl's company.

Age 18: He woke with his face pressed against the book pages and realized he had fallen asleep. But when he turned his head, Satoshi was a hair's breadth away and dozing also. Slowly, Sho reached across the space between them and gently touched the older man's cheek. Tenderly, afraid to do much more.
His heart was beating much too fast, too loud. Satoshi might hear, so Sho gave up and moved away.

Age 19: "Are you guys gay?" his college classmate asked. "You two are always together."
Before he could answer, Satoshi placed a hand on his shoulder. "We've known eachother since birth. That's all," came the soft reply.
Sho nodded weakly because he could not say more, could not understand that pain searing through his chest. "Yeah. He's just my childhood friend."

Age 20: He sighed into his hands.
"What's wrong?" the older man asked.
"I can't study," Sho whispered. It was all too overwhelming. The stress was burdensome. He eased back and laid his head on his bed. "I need something to take my mind off this for a while."
And then Satoshi sat himself on Sho's lap, his legs on either side straddling him. Sho blinked up and his friend only smiled innocently. "You wanna kiss?"
Without a word, Sho immediately wrapped his arms around his friend and drew him in.

Age 21: "What are you doing?" Sho asked, peering over Satoshi's shoulder.
"Drawing," the older man muttered.
"Me?" Sho asked.
"No."
"Who?" he wanted to know, because it definitely was a male.
"Someone," the older man replied mysteriously. Sho groaned with envy and laid his head on his friend's back. He hugged Satoshi from behind, his hands freely roaming the other's bare stomach under the thin shirt.
Suddenly, the artist paused in his sketching. "Sho?" he started.
"Hm?"
"Don't you think... we should stop this?"

It's not normal. It's not nothing, even between friends.

Age 22: I'm hanging out with some other guys from uni this year, Sho had said. That afternoon, he turned away from his childhood friend to go on his way, but all of a sudden, Satoshi reached out and grabbed his sleeve. Sho looked back at him questioningly.
"Sho, you'll always be my friend?" the man asked worriedly.
At that question, he smiled. "Of course." For some reason, Satoshi's face fell at that answer. For some reason he didn't know.

Age 23: He had been waiting at Satoshi's house all day. Just then, the older man came home and stormed up the stairs. "Satoshi!" his mother called out after him, "Sho-kun's here!" But he didn't stop.
"It's alright," Sho told her and followed him up the stairs into the hall.
"Satoshi," he called out. "What's wrong? Something the matter?"
The other man would not answer. He tried to shut the door, but Sho barged in. "What's wrong!?" He grabbed his friend's forearm. And then he saw that Satoshi was crying. His heart broke. "Satoshi..."
"Go away," his friend pleaded. Instead, Sho drew him in and embraced him suffocatingly tight. No, he will not leave. "Tell me what's wrong," he pleaded softly.
"You're not gay..." the older man sobbed, ashamed and wanting to disappear despite clinging so desperately to Sho.
That was when an idea struck him. Sho couldn't believe, wouldn't dare hope. "Are you...?" he asked softly, suddenly afraid of the answer he both wanted and did not want to hear.
Satoshi continued to cry, but then the smaller man's arms wrapped around him as tightly. "I like you, Sho," he cried. "I like just you."

Age 24: He slammed himself into the older man who barely suppressed a moan. Sho pulled out and thrust again.
"Uah..." Satoshi turned his head to look back him. "Just let me come..."
Sho kissed the side of his adorable face. "Not until you make some noise."
"But they'll hear," the older man whined.

Age 25: "Mom," Sho said from across the table. "Does it matter to you if I never marry?"
She chuckled. "It's too early to say that, Sho. You're still young. There's still time for you to find that someone."
He frowned. "That's not it. What if I can't marry that person?"

Age 26: Satoshi swallowed him whole and Sho watched as the older man's tongue worked at his length. The magic of his tongue was too much. Silky and powerful. Before long Sho spilled his seed into his lover's mouth. Satisfied that he had made the younger man come, Satoshi smiled triumphantly and licked the excess off his lips. But Sho was overwhelmed by that careless grin and he pulled the naked man into a tight embrace.
"Sho?" Satoshi wondered. What was going on? Then he felt the tears falling on his bare skin.
"I want us to be together forever," Sho said, trying to sound normal. But can we?

Can we?

Age 27: "Yay vacation!" his mother shouted.
Sho sat up in bed groggy-eyed and stared at his clock. It was only five in the morning. And he was already twenty-seven. Why was she in his room?
But then she handed him an airplane ticket with a little wink. "Enjoy your time off with Satoshi, my dear."
He couldn't believe it. He continued to be speechless until she said, "You stress over these things too much. Live your life, Sho."
She knew?
All this time she KNEW!?

Age 28: The older man was angry at him. "We're friends before we're lovers," Satoshi told him, irritated. "If you won't even talk to me, what's the point of us being together?"
"There's nothing wrong," Sho tried to assure him and failing.
Satoshi pouted. "Fine." He turned but then Sho stopped him by grabbing his arm. "Satoshi!"
"What!?"
He gave in. "I was trying to find the right time to say... I... I--"
A raise of Satoshi's eyebrows. "Love you?" Satoshi finished.
Sho flushed and huffed, hanging his head. Dammit. He couldn't even say that.
But the older man already knew and he smiled anyway. "To you too, Sho-chan."

After so many years, what has changed?

Age 29: Sho laid beside the older man and he sighed. "I'm trying to think back. Rewind all the years. I wonder when I started to fall for a chubby-cheeked guy."
Satoshi smiled smugly. "I still won anyway."
Sho sat up and stared down at him. "Won what?"
His friend grinned. "You know. Our mothers have always said: you were born and right away I wanted to hold you."
Sho laughed and leaned in to kiss him. Against his lips, Satoshi whispered, "I got what I want."

And Sho answered, "Me too."

Our mothers are bestfriends. And we are childhood friends.
But more than that, we are lovers.
The day after my birth, Satoshi's mother visited and she brought him along. He must have been only one and a few months old. Satoshi wanted to hold me and touch me.

And for me, for the rest of my life I will always be wanting just this guy.
