Hi.
I'm currently within the boundaries of Ottawa High School, USD #290.
I've attended three separate school districs and this one is by far the worst.
The only reason I am even logging onto LiveJournal is because I want to vent about how much this school just plain SUCKS. And it's not that I do not wish to further educate myself: It's the fact that this school goes about education in a very poor, and uneffective manner.
Let's start with their Internet Blocking Policy.
Criteria 1 of 1: Any website that students access on a regular basis.
WELL THAT ELIMINATES ABOUT %97.3 OF THE WORLD WIDE WEB. I guess we'll always have http://www.liberace.com and http://www.ilovegeorgebush.com... They do not realize how much of the educational content that is available to us - is now blocked. Everytime I see that semi-professional "ASTARO" logo, I want to sever my own head, and then eat the rest of my body. And the worst part: They've blocked educational website such as http://www.debateplanet.com, yet students are still able to access pornography via School Computers.
And then there's our snow days...
Just two days ago, a 7 inch snowstorm began, and blanketed the city. There was an accident on Highway 59, where 2 vehicles collided, killing both drivers. So finally, our wonderful Superindendant "Jan" Collins, -- no, not Joan... Though, I do believe she'd be a more adequate super... -- finally decided that maybe homicide was a fair reason to dismiss school an hour and a half early. We're now back in school.
I also hate the fact that this town has absolutely no pride, and is a constant resistance to any form of progress or change. Freestate Highschool wrote an article about how Ottawa mainly consists of mulleted, 80's cliche, retrograde hicks. They couldn't have been more stereotypical - or accurate. Of course, those who enter the town later in life, bring with them the cultures and attitudes of outside society, hoping that they could possibly bring about a rennaissance in this place. Sadly, no matter how hard you try to shove progress down this town's throat; nothing changes.
There is a complete lack of Pride. And coming from three previous towns that were enamoured with city pride, this is an abrupt and most unfortunate change. It's getting to the point where I'd be happy with armegeddon striking this place, and any other mishap that would eliminate it off the face of the planet.
DONT EVER MOVE TO OTTAWA KANSAS, THIS PLACE SUCKS AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
P.S. the teachers here are horrible. (not all of them... but most)
