"Witnesses and Kansas City police said a Nissan Sentra traveling south at a high rate of speed hit a concrete barrier shortly before noon, rolled over and came to rest on nearby Richards Road."

I could have guessed that speeding was involved. People go flying through that area all the time. Anyway, I hope everyone ends up being okay.

Ugh. I swear, they need to ban the phrase "high rate of speed". Do they teach that one in cop school or something?

For one, strictly speaking, a *rate* of speed is acceleration. High speed is a high rate of displacement.

For two, what the hell is wrong with "travelling at a high rate of speed" ???

Note to cops who use this expression: using more words does not make you appear more intelligent.

People at the scene seemed to think that the car rode up one of those concrete barriers that start low to the ground then gradually slope upwards.
