Just wanted to make sure this reached as many people as possible... if anyone is like me, you won't know until you check your email, as I don't have kids (Independence Schools are shut down), and I don't often watch the city channel.
WATER BOIL ADVISORY ISSUED FOR INDEPENDENCE WATER CUSTOMERS
May 8, 2007
5:12 a.m.
According to City of Independence Health Director Larry Jones, a water boil advisory has been issued for customers living within the City of Independence due to operational difficulties at the water treatment plant. Water pressure in these areas dropped below 20 pounds per square inch, as required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Customers in the affected areas are asked to:
*Boil water vigorously for three to five minutes prior to drinking;
*Empty ice trays and remake from boiled water. Do not use ice made from automatic ice makers;
*Rinse dishes with boiled water:
*Disinfect dishes and cooking surfaces with tap water that contains at least one teaspoon household bleach per gallon of tap water.
*Water used for hand-washing or bathing generally does not need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing or using backyard pools to insure that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physician.
Crews are working to make the necessary repairs at this time. Customers will be notified when the boil order will be lifted.
