Hey guys. So, my Aussie expat family and I are looking at moving to KC (parents need to be in St Jo every day for work, so probably northside somewhere) in a couple of weeks from Portland, Oregon. Thus, I have a couple of questions.
We've been totally spoiled here with the sheer amount of local, organic produce, but it took us a while to figure out where it all was, so where are the great markets that might carry awesome things like bottled organic milk, etc.? I hear you guys have the best beef ever, so anything in particular I should look out for? This is a total longshot, but also anywhere that carries a lot of world foods that might also carry some of our home staples like Vegemite?
This is more for me, but I've also been spoiled by a very large Japanese market. Where can I go to find Asian food (raw ingredients and things like Kewpie mayo would be awesome) and other fun bits and pieces? Anywhere that might stock imported home goods like shampoo and conditioner from Japanese brands? What about magazines or CDs, anything like that? Of course, these aren't necessary, but would be a big plus because it means no expensive shipping. ;)
Finally, I have green hair with some blue highlights and it's kind of a tricky style, so any recommendations for great colorists who can handle lots of layers in thick hair?
I'm looking forward to getting to know the city! Any other general recs would be great, too, as far as cool places to check out or hang out are concerned. I'm a pretty easygoing, kind of queer, rock and roll-loving type & dressage enthusiast if that helps any. Good food places are always welcomed, too.
Thanks in advance for sticking through all that!
