Ear piercing recs

A friend and I are thinking of getting our ears pierced when we're back in KC for Thanksgiving...We're talking really basic, first-time ear piercing. I've heard that it's better to avoid places like Claire's and actually go to a legit piercing place instead. Does anyone have any recommendations for a clean, reliable (and hopefully relatively ( Read more... )

Personally, I ADORE Freaks on Broadway in Westport. It's just a teeny drive, as I'm sure you know. I hear Skin Illustrations is all right, as well.

Here's a list of shops in and near OP:

Hope that helps!

Yes. Clean, courteous, artistic, quick, good pricing. Can't ask for better than that. :)

Thirding that recommendation. I've got a good rapport with the guys at 39th Street.

Thanks :) My friend seems to be learning toward just going to Claire's, since all we're doing is extremely vanilla ear piercing. Do you have any idea how much Freaks charges?

I don't want to sound all "NO!" but - xopiateslavex September 3 2010, 21:04:33 UTC
Getting your ear pierced with a gun rips the back of the ear open because it shoves a blunt object through your ear at high speed - and it's much harder to heal because of that. Needle piercings actually punch the skin out of the ear and create a far more natural, easy-to-heal hole.

I think you'd have to call Freaks at 816-531-5825 for pricing, I'm not seeing pricing on the website any more.

Either way you decide, good luck.

I originally got my earlobes pierced when I was ten years old at Claire's. They used a gun and it hurt like hell. Also the holes were lopsided and off center. And it took forever for them to heal.

For years I didn't wear earrings because of the bad piercing job. A couple of years ago I decided to get them re-pierced but this time with the experts. So I went to Freaks. They were very nice, not judgmental at all for wanting a "vanilla" ear piercing. They were very hygienic and patient with my nerves. They marked my ears and allowed me to look in the mirror to check for placement. If I didn't like it they would re-do it until I was satisfied. The actual piercing happened so quickly and because they used a needle, there was no traumatizing gunshot noise going off next to my head. They give you cleaning solution and instructions for care, and will change out the piercings after they heal. And heal it did! With much less pain than the first time around.

Moral of the story, don't be afraid of piercers! :)

I'm voting on Freaks on Broadway too. I've gotten one tattoo there, and a rook piercing. Fish is awesome - he made me feel totally at ease, and was really nice. Very clean place, the guys know their stuff, and it's decently priced.

Definitely never go to someplace like Claire's, where they use a piercing gun. Research on the internet how horrible and unsanitary guns are. Yuck!

I'm glad everyone loves Freaks as much as I do! :) They get ALL of my referrals, heh.
