I watched a walkthrough of Silent Hill Origins this part weekend. It underwhelmed me.
It took me a lot longer to get through SH 2 because it was so unbelievably harrowing. SH 3 was similar even though I watched Shelby play it before. SH 1 was hard to watch too.
I had to stop watching Origins because I got tired of watching. I felt that it reused too much from prior games particularly the monsters. There's a monster that spits acid at you that was in SH 2 that they used in this game for some reason. Except it had a male shape instead of a female shape. Did our hero have repressed homosexual desires? Why was this monster used?
Why was Lisa so annoyingly cheerful and randomly spiteful at one point? Why did she had a cleavage exposing nurse outfit? Why was she at that theater? Did she and Kaufmann have sex everywhere in the decayed town? Why?!
Also, Travis was pretty inconsequential. What drew him to Silent Hill? The grieve of his parents who killed themselves when he was a child!
...dude, you can get therapy for that. You don't know anybody in the town, you didn't murder anyone, you didn't give off the impression that the death of your parents was your own fault...
Why?!
There were some things I liked though. Some of the puzzles were really cool, the monsters that weren't ripoffs of prior games were cool (the bosses especially), and I love the music from this game. I didn't hate Travis though I don't think he was suitably Silent Hill main character esque. And there were parts of the game that were pretty goofy. (Alessa floating out of the hospital all I HAVE TEH POWER!!1!!eleven! was hilarious. XD)
It wasn't a horrible game though. I didn't even mind that Travis had the ability to go between the normal world and the Other World. It made sense in it's own way, but it didn't leave that kind of impression the first three games did on me.
