Sorting through what to offer for yuletide (so much harder this year than requests) I remembered why we only managed to get halfway through our Season 2 Maria-sama ga Miteru DVDs and won't make it to the extra seasons.
We loved season 1. We really did. It was so sweet, and gentle, and focussed on female relationships, and so entirely emotionally intense despite very little happening.
Then, Season 2. And no one has learned anything. And recurring patterns of emotional abuse are not fun to watch.
I don't care if the relationship is designated best friendship or romance, real girls should not be with robots. It's too much suffering for not enough love in return. And no, saying "I love you!" after you've crushed and destroyed someone, and then taken away their attempt to move into independence, and starting the cycle all over again, does not make it all hearts and roses.
A pity, really, because Noriko was great. Just not enough to watch for, especially with Sei relegated to a background role.
