The very next time anyone reacts to anything our precious baby does with "It's because he's a BOY!" I will scream.
HE'S A FOETUS.
Example: he doesn't have any idea what the heck gunshots in a movie represent. No, really.
I wish I could believe people are joking, but it;s just the most blatantly stupid example of how they are absolutely desperate to impose gender assumptions on him and he isn't even born yet. It's absolutely relentless. Three "because he's a boy" from three different people today. I never fully realised how completely, utterly, stupidly gendered people's assumptions were until I became pregnant. I knew feminism was a long way from succeeding in tackling the sexism of our society, but I had absolutely no idea how much pressure could be put on someone to gender conform before they are even born.
And we've had to cope with very little of the "Your'e lesbians! He needs heteronormative role models! If he's not spitting and swearing and fighting and sexually molesting little girls by three, you've failed!" crap we know we're going to get.
(Happier: he is kicking and wriggling and doing his best to reassure me that he's alive and staying alive. We love him like crazy already.)
