He had gone through the steps, washed his hands and mouth with as much reverence as he could muster. The man he was living with had suggested the outing, and he knew that he would have to comply if he was going to keep up the show he was putting on.

They had walked to the shrine, the man's daughter stealing glances over at Aizen, glances that he simply smiled placidly at before she looked away. The walk had been longer than he would have liked, but he had to admit that there was something almost calming about this place, watching the ants march into their little formations. He had even tied a paper to the tree- his writing careful and precise. The man had clapped him on the back when he did, and then went to fuss over his daughter and left a bottle of fine sake as a tribute.

What a waste of a good drink.

It didn't matter- he would soon be rid of him. He had already contacted a man that had a home for rent- one that he could obtain without the permission of these so-called gods. The landlord was probably an opium lord, but Aizen didn't care. As long as he let him rent the home in peace, he was satisfied.

He was standing back a ways, simply watching the people mill about. Nothing missed his careful attention. He was like a snake, carefully observing his prey before striking.

After all, if he was to rule over this place, he had to understand it.
