For a guy who's uncomfortable being noticed at the best of times, walking through the streets with these people outright staring, whispering to each other, even coming up to peer at him and tug at his striped shirt... it's like walking a gauntlet of torture. Matt's never been so grateful for the goggles. He can still feel his face go scarlet the more they eye him and poke at him and talk about him in whispers he can't catch, until he thinks he might burst into flames and die of embarrassment.
Which is kind of a blessing in disguise, really, a distraction from how he has no fucking idea what to say to Mello when he sees him. Less than twenty-four hours ago, they were both alive. Now Matt's dead; he knows he's dead, and ( ... )

Matt doesn't actually want to talk to Mello about any of the shit that went down. He knows he'll have to, but putting it off sounds like a real good idea. "--have a lot of questions," he finishes, lamely.
"Like, who's following you?"
Mello didn't tap Matt to be his surveillance guy for nothing; he saw that backwards glance. What's more, he saw the telltale gesture that says Mello's getting close to snapping, and doing something reckless just to do something. For once, Matt doesn't feel like talking him down from that.
"And where are we, really? I've heard a lot about gods, and next to nothing that's actually useful." Despite it all, Matt does still trust Mello to give him the truth. Painfully unvarnished, maybe, but true.

At the question, he lifted his hand, fingers wiggling as though "Mail" had offered a simple greeting.
"Rue, remember~?" Though Mimi may simply correct him. And if he does, that means Mail here has a reason to know the name B.
